We are seeking to appoint for September 2025 a well-qualified and ambitious hockey and cricket specialist for our outstanding Sports Department. Applications would be welcomed from teachers with all levels of experience including Early Career Teachers. The successful candidate must be able to teach A Level Physical Education and an allowance may be available for a candidate who has the ability to lead the delivery of the hockey and cricket programmes.
King Edward VI School (K.E.S.) is a forward-looking school with a reputation for exceptionally high standards and an outstanding co-curricular programme. The scale and variety of our sports is comparable with that found in the independent sector, indeed, many of the School’s fixtures and contacts especially in rugby, hockey, cricket, netball, rowing and fencing are with independent schools. We regularly undertake international tours, which in the last two years has included Japan (rugby), Dubai (cricket), Malta (netball), Holland (hockey) and various other European destinations (fencing). Our teams and individuals frequently enjoy national and international success (inaugural Daily Mail Cup winners in rugby, British Team Fencing champions in all age groups, male and female winners of the national Ball Cup in rowing and regional finalists in the England Netball championships), and we are proud to have recent alumni playing professional sport and who have won medals at the Olympics and Paralympics.
Hockey has grown significantly in popularity and success in recent years with an extensive mid-week fixture list, a highlight being the 1st XI victory in the England Hockey Under 18 Tier 4 Championships in 2023. We are fortunate to benefit from excellent sporting facilities which were augmented by a new all-weather hockey pitch opened last month. Our beautiful Manor Road Sports Grounds feature grass, hybrid and artificial wickets that accommodate a strong cricket fixture card that includes the annual 1st XI match versus the MCC.
The School has always played a major role in the life of Stratford-upon-Avon, situated as it is in the heart of the town. We enjoy the benefits of being a small school with talented students and a team of dedicated staff who are all committed to the wider life of the School. It is a purposeful and busy place where you will find the highest standards of work, commitment and courtesy.
K.E.S. is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. All applicants are required to declare any criminal convictions or cautions, or disciplinary proceedings related to young people. Applicants must undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and DBS and barred list checks. Online checks will be completed for all shortlisted applicants.
The closing date for the receipt of applications is Monday 27th January 2025
Completed application forms, available on the School’s website (), should be sent to the Headmaster’s PA, Mrs Rachel Saltmarsh via headspa@kes.net
