Shift Times: 7.5 hour shifts between 08:00 and 21:00

We’re looking for a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) to join our labs teams at The London Bridge Hospital, currently rated “Outstanding” by the CQC.
London Bridge Pathology Lab is a basement satellite lab which covers all disciplines (Haematology, Biochemistry, and Blood Transfusion). We receive samples from Guys as well as hospital inpatients and outpatients. Due to growth within the team, we have an exciting new opportunity for an MLA to join the team.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Processing, separating serum/plasma samples for analysis, for referral sites and for storage.
2. Assisting Biomedical Scientists in performing the analytical functions of the Laboratory.
3. Receiving samples on Laboratory Information Management System.
4. Ensuring correct samples are received for tests required and querying any problems identified.
5. Processing blood/serum/plasma and other body fluid samples for analysis, preparing aliquots for referral sites and for storage.
6. Completing maintenance and disinfection/cleaning routines.
7. Loading and unloading analysers, setting up defined diagnostic tests, stock control and unpacking deliveries, analyser maintenance, and answering telephone enquiries.
8. Responding to Temperature Monitoring System (Tutela) alarms and recording findings.
What You’ll Bring:
1. Knowledge/Understanding of different sample types and suitability.
2. Knowledge/Understanding of test types and requirements.
3. Knowledge/Understanding of urgency of specific tests and samples.
4. Understanding of the Meditech computer system and test mnemonics.
5. Previous laboratory experience is desirable.
6. Knowledge of computer systems is desirable.
