An exciting opportunity has arisen, following internal promotion, for an emerging leader to fulfil the role of a Band 8a Ward Matron. We are looking for a dynamic and compassionate nurse leader committed to the highest standards of care/patient experience, improvement and innovation. Providing operational ward management and strategic direction for the Spinal Cord Injury Centre and Rehabilitation Ward and associated services. LSCIC boasts having one of the shortest lengths of stay in the UK for people rehabilitating after a Spinal Cord Injury and The Jubilee Rehabilitation Ward a national centre of excellence is presently going substantial transformation in the way it delivers its services to our patients.
You would be joining a dynamic and diverse team of specialists to enhance, develop and promote excellent working practices, as well as contribute to the Trust values, aims and objectives while working towards achieving an outstanding CQC rating.
This role will enable you to use your considerable leadership skills, clinical knowledge, and take a leading role in supporting the large nursing teams to ensure they get the most out of their team's collective knowledge and skills. Main duties of the job
* To provide the operational ward management and strategic direction for the Spinal Cord Injury Centre and Rehabilitation Ward and associated services.
* 24-hour responsibility for overseeing expert nursing practice and care delivery and facilitate the strategic development of the Spinal Cord Injury Centre.
* Will be a highly visible autonomous practitioner who is a proactive leader, acts as a clinical resource and ensures the sustainable delivery of high standards of nursing care.
* Responsibility for exploring current practice, identifying areas for development and planning the appropriate change strategy utilizing the most up to date evidence-based practices and use the appropriate evaluation tools to monitor the outcomes.
* Responsible for the quality of the patient's environment and lead on facilitating changes that improve the inpatient experience.
* Responsible for coordinating and making effective use of staff, facilitate with the clinical nurse educators a program to supervise staff and ensure adequate provision of specialist training is maintained.
* Oversee the management of the wards and associated services' resources effectively and efficiently, participate in budget setting and manage the delegated budget accordingly.
* Integrate with the MDT to facilitate admissions and discharges of patients under the care of the Consultants/specialist.

Knowledge, Training & Experience
* Registered Nurse (RN, RGN) /registered on the NMC register.
* Teaching and assessing in the clinical environment course or equivalent teaching qualification /CPD history related to teaching and assessing.
* Management qualification or evidence of substantial CPD in management or clinically related and relevant subjects.
* Relevant post-registration courses in this specialist area or highly related area.
* 1st Degree and Masters level qualification or Willingness to start Master's Degree program within 12 months of appointment.
* Appropriate Safeguarding training- level 3.
* Advanced and specialized clinical and rehabilitation knowledge in a relevant specialty.
* Proven ability to support staff in maintaining an environment conducive to the delivery of high-quality care.
* Previous experience and competency at a B7 or above level.
* Experience in influencing change through implementation of evidence-based practice and interpretation of policies and evaluation of the change.
* Experience of working in partnership with Units/ multi-disciplinary team members.
* Advanced track record with knowledge, skills and application of HR procedures eg conduct and performance.
* Advanced knowledge of current developments in nursing and the NHS.
* Experience in influencing internal/external activities to enhance patient care.
* Experience in using the training needs analysis each year to facilitate with the CNEs a program for the development of the nursing team within the specialty.
* Track record of overseeing and monitoring the budget for your specialty/cost centres.
* Advanced knowledge in computer packages and patient-related systems eg NoteOn.
Desirable
* Leadership qualification.
* PhD.
* ITU/High Dependency experience and competency.
* Ability to develop the service using business planning and business cases.
* Rehabilitation nursing experience or course equivalency.
