Programme Manager (Science Area)
Overview of Role
Leonardo Ltd design and manufacture world leading infrared detectors for a variety of civil, industrial and military applications. A vacancy is now available to replace the Programme Manager for the fast growing Science Area within the Detectors Business due to retirement. The Science Area is a challenging and complex area encompassing projects across Space and Astronomy applications with both standard product offerings and advanced technical developments. As well as Space and Astronomy, this area also includes management of the uncooled TGS business, focused on spectroscopy applications this is a very important part of the Detectors Business.
Programme Managers are responsible for customer relationship management and accountable for financial performance to agreed business targets for their area. As part of the Detectors Management team, Programme Managers are also expected to demonstrate exemplar values & high standards in all their work and be role models within the business.
This is achieved by:
1. Looking after customers and meeting commitments on all current business
2. Understanding their customers’ requirements on future programmes/prospects
3. Presenting to the business justification for new business with their customers
4. Providing inputs to product roadmaps
5. Understanding the market in which their business area operates
6. Input to annual business planning activities
7. Produce and action business/strategy plans for their business area
8. Providing the business with a clear view of resource, skill & PV requirements
9. Providing leadership to their IPTs
10. Provide inputs to PDRs for members of their IPTs
11. Working together to agree business & resourcing priorities
12. Monthly review of project performance
13. Monthly management reporting on progress against business plans within their business area
Experience and Knowledge
14. Demonstrates and possesses expertise to be called upon as a consultant for complex assignments.
15. Ability to influence and motivate large-scale project/programme teams (direct/indirect management).
16. Applies professional concepts in creative ways.
17. Be capable of interacting with technical experts from a variety of disciplines and should be prepared to challenge and seek further justification where necessary.
18. Facilitate problem solving and resolve conflicts within the team.
19. Negotiate at all levels within the business as well as with customers and possess a strong sense of commercial awareness.
20. Wide-ranging knowledge and experience of Leonardo project lifecycle.
21. Be capable of leading bid activities forward in a clear, structured manner providing bid management direction and engagement with the bid team to meet customer requirements.
22. Commercial and financial acumen and negotiation skills.
23. Experience/knowledge of Space and Astronomy Marketplace/customers preferred.
24. Typically, meets the knowledge and experience competency levels of the Project Manager (Master), Programme Manager (Advanced) or PMO Manager as defined by the APM Competency Framework Typically meets the requirements for registration as a certified member of the Association for Project Managers or equivalent (AcostE, MAPM, PMI, Association of Proposal Management Professionals).
