This is a role for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist who has experience in neurological disorders and communication difficulties. We are looking for someone to provide highly specialised assessment and therapy for dysphagia and communication impairments to a wide range of adult clients with mental health diagnoses and complex conditions including acquired and progressive neurological conditions e.g. Huntington's disease, Parkinson's, and stroke.
Main duties of the job
Working on a rehab ward with up to 14 patients. This is an opportunity to work with longer stay inpatients to support individual rehab and be a part of a therapies team including Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physiotherapy and Psychology, as well as a wider MDT including Psychiatry and the nursing teams.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will:
* Manage a complex caseload of patients autonomously with appropriate clinical and managerial supervision
* Carry out assessment, treatment and outcome measurement of communication for people with complex mental health and/or neurological impairments
* Carry out assessment and treatment for people with cognitive and physical swallowing disorders as a result of mental health and/or neurological impairments including implementation of risk feeding protocols where indicated
* Develop individualised goals and treatment programmes alongside providing specialist Speech and Language Therapy advice to the wider multidisciplinary team
* Work with people and their families to ensure goals are co-produced and client centred whilst managing their expectations as appropriate.
Minimum Requirements
* Degree and Licence to Practise from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
* Current AHP with UK HCPC registration and RCSLT membership
* Evidence of competence in managing dysphagic patients
* Well established knowledge of a broad range assessment tools relevant to the specialist client group
* Evidence of relevant post-registration education and training e.g. in Stroke, Supervision
* Member of a relevant Clinical Excellence Network
