Tameside is one of the 10 local authorities that make up Greater Manchester, nestling between the buzz of Manchester City Centre and the beauty of the Peak District on our doorstep. With a manufacturing and industrial heritage, we face many endemic issues associated with poverty, low-skills, low pay economy and inter-generational health challenges.
It is an exciting time to join Tameside Council as we begin our plans to reform and redesign Adult Social Care and implement the intentions of The White Paper ‘People at the Heart of Care’.
We’re looking for a new Head of Service who will have responsibility for Learning Disability, Autism and Mental Health Services, this includes direct delivery services and registered provision. You will lead and embed the newly formed Learning Disability, Autism and Mental Health Service in Tameside along with the AMHP and Out of Hours service, working closely with the Assistant Director of Adults and colleagues across the Health and Social Care System.
The Role:
To lead the Social Work and Provider Learning Disability, Autism and Mental Health services, building strong positive working relationships ensuring a streamlined efficient response in managing the service leading to positive outcomes for people.
This will include:
1. Responsible for the setting and implementation of the Service’s strategic direction, policies and objectives.
2. Build and develop the strengths and skills of employees within the service, creating a confident learning and development environment for staff and managers to progress their careers in Tameside.
3. Provide visible and supportive leadership, empowering, enabling, motivating and developing the service’s workforce and fostering a positive organisational culture in line with the vision of Tameside.
4. Ability to lead, motivate and develop managers within the service, and ensure they maintain a culture of change that is team based, performance driven and maintains the motivation of staff.
5. Establish a performance culture, including service planning, target setting, performance appraisal and the management and motivation of integrated teams and staff groups.
6. You will work in collaboration with internal, external partners and Voluntary organisations to build up positive working relationships across the whole system in achieving the best possible outcomes for the people we support.
About You:
You’ll need to show you can drive ongoing service improvement with challenging oversight, under pressure and putting our residents first. We want calm leadership, constancy of purpose, resilience, robustness, drive and excellent people and partnership skills.
You will have extensive leadership experience at senior management level, and in depth understanding of local authority adult social care. We’ll focus more on your skills, experience and capacity to lead a clear, but demanding agenda within a highly political environment.
