Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Head and Neck Ward B7 at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust as Ward Manager.
B7 is a 16 bedded ward which has elective and emergency head and neck patients.
You will lead and manage the nursing team, in conjunction with the Matron. You must have good organisational and leadership skills and have a proven track record. Sound clinical knowledge is essential. You should be adaptable and flexible to changes, a team player, motivated, able to use your initiative promote and deliver high quality individualised care to our patients. Be a role model to junior staff. Coordinate all clinical aspects of the ward and ensuring cooperation between clinical departments. Implementing clinical and administrative policies, procedures, and regulations. Ensuring compliance by others with policies and procedures. Support staff through debriefs, appraisals, training, meetings, and the development of evidence-based practice.
Main duties of the job
Manages the nursing team; to include annual appraisal, staffing rotas, performance and sickness management, recruitment and selection and the supervision of students.
Management of the ward budget.
Monitor standards of nursing care and take appropriate action to maintain. Assists in continued monitoring of patient experience and harm free care.
To respond to patients, relatives and carers concerns and complaints or clinical incidents.
Management of the nursing workload ensuring most effective use of time and resource.
Adhere to Trust policies and procedures. Manage the performance of staff effectively.
Communicate effectively and maintain a harmonious working environment, demonstrates an understanding of conflict resolution.
Be responsible for accurate documentation and care of all patient care records.
Maintain a safe environment ensuring Health and Safety guidelines are implemented and adhered to.
Ensuring the availability of appropriate resources for patient care through controlling ward stock.
Ensure equipment is in good working order. Participate in audit and apply any changes to improve standards.
Ensure adequate staff cover by compiling duty rosters and control the use of bank within agreed limits.
Recruit, select and appoint new staff as required to maintain nursing establishments.
Deputise as required, including attending meetings.

Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested
Assist in leading the annual appraisal process and ensure all staff have an individual performance review and a personal development plan in place
Ensure all new staff and students receive a full orientation to the ward or department
