Job Title: Staff Nurse
Department: Nursing
Location: Wootton, Oxford
Reports To: Practice Manager, Lead Nurse
Salary: £38k per annum dependant on experience
Potential to progress to Lead Nurse
PURPOSE
As Staff Nurse, you will work within a dermatology team to deliver care to patients within a Clinic environment. You will participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to provide support to patients with Dermatological conditions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Main Responsibilities
* Support patient pathways in Dermatology and participate fully in the treatment and monitoring of patients
* Supervise and demonstrate procedures for junior staff qualified and unqualified
* Assisting Dermatologists and Surgeons with a range of specialised procedures such as general dermatology and skin care surgery
* Ensure compliance with relevant NICE Guidelines, BDNG Competencies and NMC Code.
* Plan and organise own workload in order to meet Clinic and patient needs
* Ensure compliance with Clinic Policies and Procedures
* Assisting in outpatient clinics
* Check referral letter, results and x-rays are available for clinical sessions
* Support the community dermatology clinic, providing education and resources to patients, their families and staff
* Perform a full skin assessment on each patient including dermoscopy where necessary
* Perform all aspects of relevant nursing care for patients including specialist dressing/bandaging techniques and the removal of sutures/clips
* Assist and chaperone patients whilst clinical examinations/procedures are being undertaken
* Assist medical staff with fine needle aspirations, core biopsies and take responsibility for the collection/labelling of specimens
* Provide high standards of care in various Nurse-led follow-up clinics including phototherapy, cryotherapy, acne clinics, PRP and related clinics, patch testing and assisting in minor surgery
* Support where and when necessary with audits, triage of results and triage of referrals.
* Liaise with other Clinics to share best practice and identify better ways of working in line with Company standards
* Embrace new technology and practice which will support patient care
Patient Journey
* Support the patient throughout their visit ensuring safe and effective care from start to finish
* Ensure patients and carers have received sufficient and relevant verbal and written information
* Educate each patient on how to protect their skin, prevent illnesses and care for skin diseases/conditions at home
* Act as patient advocate and always ensure patient satisfaction
* Assist in creating a supportive and caring environment
* Promoting high standards of clinical care to all our patients across the board
Systems and Equipment
* Record biographical details of individuals in manual and computerised records
* Prepare specific equipment required within the department prior to clinical procedures, using decontamination techniques prior to mandatory safety checks
* Maintain, monitor, control and order stock and equipment within the department, reporting any deficit or maintenance required
* Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of the department
* Prepare clinical area and department prior to start of clinics
Health and Safety
* Always maintain Health and Safety standards
* Clinical supervision of junior staff
* Dispose of clinical waste in line with Health and Safety guidelines
* Prepare specific equipment required within the Department prior to clinical procedures
* Responsible for clinical incident reporting as per Company policies
Infection Prevention and Control
* Ensure that you are familiar with and adhere to the TDP Infection Prevention and Control Policy and procedures
* * Ensure that your work does not endanger yourself or others
* Be aware of infection prevention and control policies, practices and guidelines. You must follow these at all times to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of infection prevention and control, policies, practices and procedures through attendance at annual mandatory updates and ongoing continuing professional development
* Challenge poor infection prevention and control practices of others and report any breaches, using appropriate Trust mechanisms (e.g. incident reporting policy)
Confidential Matters
* Ensure that you are familiar with and adhere to TDP policy and procedures on Information Governance. This includes disclosure of information, records management and management of confidential information
* Always maintain patient confidentiality
* Assemble nursing documentation, including all stationery requirements for clinical sessions.
* Check clinic lists, reporting any discrepancies to the ‘appointed person in charge’
* Ensure accurate record keeping as per Clinic Processes
* Answer telephone calls courteously, relay messages accurately and promptly, and answer general enquiries by visitors
* Verbal handover of patient information to the Lead Nurse

* Participate in statutory and mandatory training as appropriate for the post
* Maintain consistently high, personal and professional standards and act in accordance with the relevant professional code of conduct
* Take responsibility for the maintenance and improvement of personal and professional competence and to encourage that of colleagues and subordinates
* Participate in appraisal processes including identifying performance standards for the post, personal objective setting, and the creation of a personal development plan in line with outline for the post
* Ensure that you are familiar with and adhere to Safeguarding procedures and guidelines and undertake any additional training in relation to safeguarding relevant to your role
* Ensure that you are familiar with the TDP Equality and Diversity policies. This incudes respecting the privacy, dignity, needs and beliefs of patients, carers and colleagues and behaving in a manner which is welcoming to and of the individual, is non-judgmental and respects their circumstances, feelings priorities and rights

Academic/Vocational Qualifications
* Nursing Degree
* State registered NMC
Experience
* Significant post-registration Nursing experience
* Extended practical knowledge of Dermatology
* Experience of delivering Dermatology treatments
* Knowledge of patient database systems
* Phlebotomy – administration of drugs as prescribed by medical staff
* Willing to undertake necessary training
* Competent with Microsoft Office software
* Understanding of clinical and pricing documentation
