Guildhall Chambers is recognised as a leading barristers' chambers, based in central Bristol, and providing legal services and advocacy expertise across both civil and crime on regional and national basis. More information about Guildhall Chambers can be found on our website.
Our staff are essential to our continued success, and it is therefore important to us that we continue to invest in our people to always ensure we retain our collegiate culture and high standards of service for ourselves and our clients.
Due to growth, we now seek an Assistant Practice Manager (APM) to join our busy Civil Clerking team.
Reporting to the Senior Practice Manager and supporting two Practice Managers, the APM is responsible for (amongst other things and alongside other APMs) providing barrister diary administration, booking court hearings, other appointments, and papers, as well as administering email boxes, liaising with solicitor and Public Access clients, by email, face to face and over the telephone. The role includes attending client functions (business development), checking court listings and ensuring barristers have the correct information and papers to be able to fulfil their clients' instructions in a timely way.
This is a strongly client focussed role and will require positive and proactive support of the wider staff team and Chambers as a whole.
The key to the role is a strong focus and eye for detail, a love of dealing with people and a 'can do' attitude to embracing variety. Chambers is a professional environment and requires a strong work ethic.
The successful candidate would ideally have had previous exposure within a legal setting, but this role would also suit someone who has worked in a fast-paced administrative support role, such as Personal Assistant, or Customer Service, where an eye for detail, accuracy and speed is fundamental to success.
This role will involve clerking personal injury, clinical negligence, Court of Protection and employment barristers, and experience in one or some of these areas would be beneficial, but not essential.
Starting salary is dependent upon experience. A full job description is available on request. For further information please contact Senior Practice Manager, Caroline Evans.
Closing date for applications: Wednesday 17th January 2025.
