Quality Engineer, Automotive, London, £30,000 - £35,000 circa Benefits Reporting into the Quality Manager, the role of Quality Engineer involves improving and developing both the internal manufacturing/assembly processes, and the global supply base to bring about improvements in final product quality, waste reduction and a reduction in early life failures. The role involves analysing, identifying and permanently fixing quality problems using structured problem solving tools. The role will also involve resolving quality issues on product failures and reporting back to responsible business area to improve the product reliability, customer satisfaction, You will be required to focus on improving product quality through the use of pro-active quality principles. Above all, the focus must be on achieving "right first time" and "on-time-in-full" deliveries to meet or exceed customer expectations and the objectives of the business. With a suppliers and customers in many locations around the world it is expected that local and international travel, and periods working away from the London base will be involved. Quality Engineer responsibilities: To constantly strive to increase our "right-first-time" performance and eliminate failures whilst maximising efficiency. To assist with customer account related quality & warranty issues i.e. quality plans, audits, warranty, complaints, concessions etc. To carry out product and process investigations and data collection/analysis (PPM) To identify problems, determine root-cause and to coordinate implementation of corrective and preventive actions, and produce formal 8D reports To compile and assist with Quality & Process documentation, i.e. Control Plans, Process Flow Maps, FMEA, Control Charts, Visual Aids, Work Instructions, etc. To conduct internal product and process audits, and audits on suppliers. To maintain and support IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 certification and assessments To compile and assist with PPAP documentation for customer approvals To support the product tear downs and reporting Quality Engineer requirements: Excellent communications skills are a pre-requisite; you will have proficient oral, written and presentation skills, and be able to build effective relationships across the business, with customers and with suppliers across the globe. You will be self-motivated and able to work alone or in teams with a minimum of supervision A Quality Engineer ideally qualified to Degree level in an electrical or mechanical engineering You will have an electro-mechanical / assembly manufacturing background Be well versed in structured problem solving tools such as 8D/5WHY/Ishikawa Experience of IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC and process control activities Knowledge of ISO14001 and practical implementation and system integration ISO 9001/IATF16949 certified auditor experience will be an advantage. Working knowledge ( MS office, Excel, Word, Power point, Outlook) Working knowledge and understanding of MRP systems Working knowledge and understanding of calibration Working knowledge and understanding of GD&T ( Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing ) A good team player, with the ability to remain calm under pressure and possess good interpersonal skills
