Job Description:
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Support the Principal Investigator in achieving project milestones and attending project meetings as required.
2. Physically test the accuracy of the sensors, mechanical strength of the optical fibres, and structural integrity when embedded into structural components.
3. Relate multi-dimensional strains and temperature readings to the quality of the manufactured component, informing process parameters and through-life monitoring.
4. Contribute to the design and organisation of the R&D project and assist with project administration.
5. Assist with collating and writing publications, project reports, and working papers.
Skills and experience required
* Experience in composite manufacturing and knowledge of composites with a fundamental understanding of microstructural features of composites.
* Ability to numerically model composite processing or composite failure using software (e.g., Abaqus and Ansys).
* Good IT skills, including the use of MS Office.
* Research experience in composite damage identification and prediction (e.g., thermoplastic) and a record of scholarly work such as published work in peer-reviewed composites related journals.
* Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, with flexibility and adaptability to workload and team requirements.
* Ability to work effectively in a team, demonstrate initiative, and learn new skills.
Qualifications required
* Educated with a degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification) or higher qualification in a relevant discipline.
* PhD (or equivalent level 8 qualification) or equivalent experience in composites and materials science.
