Why are we recruiting?
PayPoint operates a retail network of over 28,000 local shops through which we deliver a wide range of services to local communities. We manage and settle over £10 billion of omnichannel payments every year. We are embarking on a modernisation of some of our settlement and billing systems thus ensuring that payments from our retailers to our clients and vice versa continue to be managed in an efficient and seamless manner.
What will you be doing?
As the Business Central Lead Engineer at PayPoint, you will spearhead the creation of an in-house Business Central development capability, reporting directly to the Head of Settlement & Billing. You will lead on delivery for end-to-end Dynamics 365 Business Central projects, working in conjunction with in-house analysts and finance systems stakeholders, as well as interfacing with our external solutions supplier. As the go-to SME, you will also provide strategic guidance and technical expertise to the wider team, as well as mentorship as the team grows over time. This is first and foremost a hands-on development role, but also requires team leadership and client engagement experience to ensure the successful implementation of solutions aligned with business objectives.
Responsibilities of the role:
* Take a hands-on approach to delivering Business Central projects, ensuring high-quality solutions are developed based upon best practice principles.
* Lead the Business Central team, and mentor wider colleagues, providing guidance on technical and strategic aspects of projects.
* Collaborate with senior management to understand and align project objectives with business goals.
* Translate technical requirements into actionable project plans and development tasks.
* Develop best in class business solutions for our customers primarily using the Business Central platform.
* Lead on new Business Central bespoke feature development and configuration and ensure AL development passes code analyser rules and that all changes always follow PP development guidelines.
* Lead on upgrades to new versions of Business Central. From either C/AL or AL versions. Gain knowledge on the process to upgrade Business Central On prem to SaaS.
* Engage with our internal stakeholders and external 3rd parties to understand their requirements, provide consultancy, and build strong relationships.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the team and contribute to product strategy.
* Assist with planning the availability of resources and tools necessary for the growth of the practice.
* Deliver project work on time per agreed timescales.
* Understanding and utilising PP’s use of nHanced products where required.
* Use Git for source control, ensuring regular commits/pushes are conducted.
* Gain knowledge in Third Party products such as Continia and Tasklet.
* Keep up to date with new application and development changes in Business Central.
What would we like from you?
This is a senior level role requiring a minimum of 5 years' experience in Dynamics NAV/Business Central development and support, with at least 2 years in a team leadership or lead developer position. You will be expected to demonstrate an exemplary track record of delivering complex solutions from working in professional development organisations using agile methodology. You will be expected to hit the ground running and join in-flight project work from Day 1, quickly building up knowledge of Paypoint’s Business Central installation and understanding the future project roadmap. You will be a self-starter and comfortable working remotely with minimal supervision. Over time you will work with the Head of Settlement & Billing to grow the practice as part of a multi-year in-sourcing strategy.
What is essential for the role?
* Extensive experience in end-to-end Dynamics 365 Business Central/NAV implementation.
* Understanding of best practices for building modern user experiences in Dynamics NAV/Business Central.
* Proficiency in SQL, C/AL, AL, and Dynamics 365 configuration.
* Proven team leadership experience, including leading project development and managing team members.
* Strong client-facing and consultancy skills with excellent communication abilities.
* Demonstrated ability to drive quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Proactive and positive attitude with a passion for learning and development.
* Committed to delivering best in class high quality code.
* Experience in using MS Azure DevOps Boards.
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are a must.
* Ability to act as a Team Player with a can-do attitude.
* Previous experience in a professional development organization with a track record of delivering complex software solutions.
* Ability to work independently in a virtual environment.
It would be great if you already have…
* Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and remote access software.
* Familiarity with Visual Studio Code, Git Source Control, and Azure DevOps.
* Experience with technologies like Docker and PowerShell to complement the development experience in VSCode.
* T-SQL – Reading and querying database tables, views, stored procedures.
* Knowledge of web services integration using SOAP and JSON APIs.
* Basic accounting knowledge and experience with ERP functions.
* Relevant Dynamics 365 training and certifications.
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
