The Royal Cornwall hospital provides Pathology services for Cornwall and is currently looking for a motivated Band 5 Biomedical Scientist to become part of the Clinical Chemistry team covering the full range of available tests, rotating through all sections. The Blood Sciences department is soon to enter an exciting phase with a new build pathology department, future proofing pathology for the next 40 years with a purpose-built facility featuring state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment.
Our laboratory is ISO 15189:2012 accredited and is equipped with GLP tracked Abbott Alinity Chemistry and Immunoassay analysers, Sebia Tera 3 capillary electrophoresis, Advanced Instruments Osmo1, and Thermo Scientific Dionex UltiMate HPLC systems.
You will be expected to participate in a 24/7 rota after suitable training.
The department supports professional career progression and works closely with educational establishments to provide placement and training opportunities.

Main duties of the job
1. To undertake scientific duties in any part of the Department as required in order to facilitate the smooth running of the service.
2. To participate in the 24/7 service provision.
3. To provide a clinical technical service by performing routine and specialist analytical testing on a range of biological samples.
4. To maintain and run specialist equipment as deemed appropriate by the lead BMS.
5. To work alongside staff members of all grades, and engage in the team ethic.
6. To supervise, mentor and support Junior Staff and support the wider Team.
7. To support the quality management system.
