Job summary The role of Carer's Peer Support Worker has been developed specifically for people who have experience of caring for a friend or family member experiencing mental distress. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, carer's peer support workers will inspire hope & belief that recovery is possible in others. Juniper Ward is an 18-bed male acute ward with a further 6 Ministry of Defence speciality beds. We are fortunate to have a well-established, multi-disciplinary team including nurses, doctors, OTs, inpatient social workers, peer support workers, & is a passionate, recovery focused group. We like to have a busy schedule of activities, events & opportunities for collaborative & engaged interactions with the patients on the ward. The Carer's Peer Support Worker works collaboratively & aims to assist in improving the wellbeing of service users, families & carers of people who use the Acute Inpatient Mental Health Services by supporting carers directly, providing support to carers groups, developing & maintaining relationships with the service provider teams, & contributing to service delivery. Person specification Qualifications Essential Completion of own wellness plan (there is no expectation for this to be shared) Level of educational attainment to NVQ level 2 or equivalent experience which can include lived experience of being a carer of others experiencing mental distress and recovery Desirable Completion of peer support worker training provided by HIOWH or alternative source Willingness to undertake further training in line with development of peer support Computer literate in Microsoft office Presentation skills Experience Essential Lived experience being a carer of others experiencing mental distress and recovery.
