Hours: The full-time working week in DWP is 37 hours.
You may be required to work at any time between the hours of: 7.45 am and 8:00 pm on any day between Monday to Friday, and 8.45 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday. Managers will agree working patterns with successful applicants within these business hours and review these as appropriate.
About the job:
We are the CASS (Centralised Application Support Services) Level 2 application support team. We are a team in DWP Digital, which is part of the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP).
DWP Digital builds, maintains and operates all the IT systems used by DWP to run its business. This includes citizen-facing services which are available on gov.uk, and colleague-facing services which are only accessible by DWP staff.
The CASS team helps to operate many DWP IT systems, some of which are used by citizens and some of which are used internally by colleagues.
1. Work collaboratively with teams across Digital Group to ensure smooth running of operational processes.
2. Effectively utilise Incident, Problem and Change and Release Mgmt. as well as automating and innovating via continuous improvement to enhance the services we provide for citizens.
3. Be part of the DWP Estate transition from On Premise Hosting to the Cloud.
4. Be part of an Organisation that takes career development seriously working alongside other functions such as DevOps, SRE and other Engineering disciplines.
What does a day in the life of this role look like?
Our Application Operations Engineers support, manage and maintain a single application or a suite of applications. They install, maintain, upgrade, and continuously improve DWP’s applications. They also maintain the ongoing reliability, performance, and support of those applications. This includes:
1. Monitoring applications
2. Responding to and proactively raising incidents and problems.
3. Troubleshooting issues reported by users.
4. Responding to customer requests
5. Continual service improvements
However, we don’t expect you to have all the skills and experience needed to do the job when you first join us!
You will not normally be working alone, but as part of a team. This team will problem-solve, work together, and support each other. The team will also support you as you learn the job and give you opportunities to try new work and learn new skills as your confidence and knowledge develops over time.
We have plenty of experience in hiring people with no previous DWP experience or no IT skills, and training and supporting them to be effective and valued members of our team. We have lots of materials ready for you, and lots of experienced people on hand to support you.
