Responsibilities
1. Monitor and assess the health conditions of neonates and children.
2. Administer medications, treatments, and vaccinations as prescribed.
3. Provide postnatal care for newborns, including feeding support and health monitoring.
4. Assist with specialized procedures such as intubation, catheterization, and neonatal resuscitation.
5. Educate parents and caregivers about child health, nutrition, and safety.
6. Provide emotional support and guidance to families during challenging medical situations.
7. Collaborate with families to create personalized care plans.
8. Care for premature and critically ill newborns requiring advanced medical interventions.
9. Operate and monitor life-support equipment, such as ventilators and incubators.
10. Administer total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and manage intravenous lines.
11. Assess and promote developmental milestones for infants and children.
12. Advocate for therapeutic interventions and play-based recovery activities.
13. Work with paediatricians, neonatologists, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
14. Document patient histories, progress, and treatment plans accurately.
15. Ensure smooth transitions of care between hospital and home settings.
16. Mentor and train junior nursing staff and nursing students.
17. Participate in ongoing professional development to remain up-to-date with best practices in paediatrics and neonatology.
Skills and Qualifications
1. Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSc Nursing) or equivalent; specialization in Paediatric or Neonatal Nursing preferred.
2. Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
3. Certifications: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
4. Experience: Prior experience in paediatrics or NICU is highly desirable.
5. Skills:
o Compassion and patience when working with children and their families.
o Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
o Attention to detail, particularly in high-pressure environments like NICUs.
o Ability to multitask and prioritize in fast-paced settings.
