Job Summary
The Quality Manager will lead all quality-related activities to ensure that production, installation, and maintenance of wind turbines meet both global company standards and local UK/European requirements. This includes evaluating and implementing existing corporate QA/QC systems, adapting them to local regulations, and developing new procedures where necessary.
The Quality Manager will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust Document Control system to support project execution and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quality management (ISO standards, QA/QC methodologies) and experience in managing systems and processes in large-scale projects—preferably in the renewable energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
* Quality Management System (QMS) Development & Integration: Review existing corporate Quality Management Systems, assess suitability for the UK context, and recommend adaptations or enhancements to meet local regulations and standards. Collaborate with global Quality teams to ensure seamless integration of company-wide QA/QC principles with regional requirements (e.g., ISO 9001, UK/EU standards). Establish local processes, KPIs, and metrics that align with parent company objectives while meeting UK/European compliance standards.
* Quality Assurance & Control: Oversee quality inspections, audits, and product testing to ensure compliance with both corporate and local regulations (ISO 9001, IEC, DNV, GL, etc.). Coordinate with engineering and production teams to investigate non-conformities, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective/preventive actions suitable for the local context.
* Document Control: Implement the company’s existing Document Control framework, adapting where necessary for UK/European legal and industry requirements. Develop local procedures for document numbering, revision control, and archival, ensuring alignment with parent company protocols. Train UK-based staff and contractors on Document Control processes and monitor compliance.
* Regulatory & Standards Compliance: Stay up-to-date with evolving UK and European quality regulations, certifications, and industry standards, ensuring seamless integration with global company policies. Act as the liaison between the local operation and global Quality teams, addressing any discrepancies or updates required for compliance.
* Parent Company Collaboration: Maintain strong relationships with parent company leadership, functional heads, and cross-regional Quality teams to exchange best practices, share learnings, and drive standardization. Represent the UK branch in global quality forums, contributing UK-specific insights and advocating for necessary changes or adaptations.
* Supplier & Contractor Quality Management: Implement and adapt parent company supplier quality requirements to reflect local market conditions and regulations. Conduct supplier audits in collaboration with corporate procurement and quality teams, ensuring alignment with both global standards and local needs. Champion a culture of continuous improvement throughout the UK branch, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiencies, reduce costs, and maintain high-quality standards. Utilize data-driven methodologies to streamline operations and ensure best-in-class performance.
* Reporting & Communication: Prepare regular quality reports and presentations for local management and parent company stakeholders, highlighting trends, risks, and improvement actions. Foster transparent communication across cross-functional teams (engineering, procurement, project management) to ensure alignment on quality goals and standards. Recruit, manage, and mentor local quality assurance staff and document control coordinators, ensuring they understand and uphold both global and local quality expectations. Promote a collaborative and proactive work culture that emphasizes teamwork, responsibility, and professional growth.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
* Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Quality Management, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
Certifications:
* ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, Six Sigma, or related quality certifications preferred.
Experience:
* 8+ years of experience in quality management, ideally within the renewable energy or heavy industry sectors. Offshore wind is preferred.
* 3+ years minimum of experience in offshore wind.
* Proven track record in establishing, adapting, or managing Document Control systems in large, complex projects (within the broader quality management context).
* Experience collaborating with cross-border teams and customizing global systems for local compliance.
Technical Skills:
* Thorough understanding of ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, etc.) and quality tools (FMEA, 8D, SPC).
* Familiarity with UK/EU industry-specific standards and guidelines (such as IEC, DNV, GL) is advantageous.
Soft Skills:
* Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration abilities, especially in cross-cultural and cross-functional settings.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to balance global standards and local adaptations.
* A proactive, solutions-focused approach, capable of driving change in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions:
* Flexible working arrangements can be discussed for the right candidates.
* Involves working with global teams across different time zones.
* Must be flexible to accommodate varying project schedules and occasional urgent requirements related to quality issues.
