We are eager to expand this sector profitably, which presents an opportunity for a Marine Trading Manager to join our dedicated team. This role is ideal for someone looking to contribute significantly to our ongoing success, growth, and ambitions in Marine insurance.
About the role:
The Marine Trading Manager will mainly engage with the market, including brokers, current and potential clients, and industry peers. Your responsibilities will include driving a disciplined growth strategy, managing portfolio development, and developing new business channels. You will also oversee the training and development of junior underwriters and contribute thought leadership.
As part of a large team, you'll have opportunities to enhance your technical skills and capabilities. Success will be measured by pipeline delivery, growth in GWP and profit, positive relationships with intermediaries and clients, and fostering a strong team ethos.
You will be accountable for:
1. Ensuring the business written and renewed aligns with plan requirements.
2. Achieving volume, quality, and profitability targets for growth opportunities.
3. Building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients.
4. Managing the performance and development of your assigned risks, including meeting targets for GWP, NWP, Loss Ratio, Expense Ratio, and Combined Ratio, as well as rate achievement.
5. Applying case-by-case judgment to ensure compliance with overall strategy and governance.
Required skills and experience:
* Strong technical expertise in underwriting cargo and freight liability risks.
* Proven experience managing an underwriting portfolio and monitoring key metrics.
* Excellent relationship-building skills with brokers, along with strong pipelining and opportunity development abilities.
* Confident communicator, comfortable in negotiations and engaging with brokers.
* Results-driven with effective planning and prioritization skills.
