Job Description: Registered Nurse (RGN & RMN)
Accountable To: Home Manager
Job Purpose: To ensure the efficient running of the home during the time when on duty as the senior.

Qualifications:
Hours Of Duty: Flexible shifts as rostered including weekends and bank holidays.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. To ensure the assessment of service users' care needs, the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care are undertaken and documented fully.
2. Monitor and review electronic care plan and EMAR system.
3. Take charge of the Home in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility.
4. Undertake on-call duties as required.
5. Ensure an appropriate exchange of information between all grades of staff which promotes continuity of service user care.
6. Maintain full and complete nursing/home records.
7. Ensure the safe administration of drugs in accordance with the N.M.C. and Homes policy, reporting any errors or concerns to the Senior Nurse/person as necessary.
8. Monitor the use of all resources to promote effective and efficient use appropriate to the needs of the service users.
9. Liaise with relevant parties in order to facilitate service user care and wellbeing.
10. Report any shortfalls in the provision of service user care to the person in charge/management.
11. Ensure care practices are reflective of the requirements of the NMC and that such practices are reviewed and developed.
12. Maintain personal contact with residents through one-to-one contact and group activities.
13. Ensure all visiting professionals are recorded.
14. Attend mandatory training and in-house training as required and complete mandatory e-learning.
15. Abide by and understand all policies and procedures.
16. Help to ensure the home is compliant with Care Inspectorate (CI) in Scotland and Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England.
17. Help promote and market the home.
18. Abide by NMC code of conduct.
19. Assist in audits as required.
EDUCATION
1. Assist with the orientation, induction, and ongoing training of staff.
2. Contribute to the continuing development of the home through professional self-development and the promotion of evidence-based practice.
3. Ensure NMC pin number and validation are in date.
COMMUNICATION
1. Attend meetings and ensure that information is passed on to all the staff.
2. Help maintain good communications with all professionals and others involved with client care and the management of the Home.
3. Ensure professional support to all grades of staff in the Home.
Health and Safety: Be conversant with and ensure all staff are aware of the requirements under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and of their compliance. Advise the Group Operations Director of any area of concern.
Night Duty: This is a wakeful duty unless notified otherwise.
Review: Changes which affect the organisation may necessitate the responsibilities of this post to be reviewed.

Person Specification Area
ESSENTIAL Qualifications: Nursing qualifications and up-to-date NMC registration.
Experience: Minimum 1 year working as a registered nurse.
DESIRABLE: Level 4 in Health and Social Care or equivalent (or working towards), Risk Assessment, Health & Safety Certificate.
Skills: Ability to work autonomously, under pressure, promote residents' rights, and support other services. Good communication skills, able to prioritise, lead and motivate employees, and build a team that supports and values individuals.
Knowledge: Understanding of local and national codes of practice relating to the care of older people, and legislation underpinning practice.
