Our Driver / Store Person plays a crucial role in ensuring seamless operations through effective transport, inventory control, and compliance with health and safety standards.
The Driver / Store Person is responsible for managing the transportation, storage, and distribution of equipment and materials required for site operations. This role involves driving company vehicles, operating forklifts, and managing stock levels at the depot. The successful candidate will support the mobilisation of teams by ensuring that all necessary tools, machinery, and materials are available and delivered to project sites efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
Transport & Delivery
1. Drive company vehicles (e.g., vans, trucks, or flatbeds) to deliver materials, tools, and equipment to project sites.
2. Ensure timely delivery of supplies and adhere to designated schedules.
3. Load and unload equipment and materials safely, using a forklift or manual handling techniques.
4. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects to the Logistics Manager.
5. Ensure compliance with road safety regulations and transport guidelines, including Street Works requirements where applicable.
Warehouse & Stock Management
6. Maintain accurate stock records for tools, materials, and equipment in the storage facility.
7. Conduct regular inventory checks to ensure sufficient stock levels and prevent shortages.
8. Safely store and organise equipment and materials for easy access.
9. Receive and check deliveries, verifying quantities and conditions of items against purchase orders.
10. Ensure tools and equipment are returned, inspected, and stored properly after site use.
Equipment Handling & Maintenance
11. Operate a forklift or other lifting equipment to move heavy materials and supplies.
12. Conduct basic maintenance and cleaning of tools and machinery before deployment.
13. Report any damaged or defective tools, requesting repairs or replacements as necessary.
14. Assist with site mobilisation and demobilisation by coordinating equipment logistics.
Health, Safety & Compliance
15. Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
16. Ensure compliance with Street Works regulations when delivering to and from sites.
17. Safely operate vehicles, forklifts, and lifting equipment following site-specific guidelines.
18. Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety briefings.
19. Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the warehouse, reducing hazards and ensuring safe working conditions.
Support for Site Operations
20. Work closely with site teams to understand their material and equipment needs.
21. Provide logistical support for emergency site requirements by arranging urgent deliveries.
22. Assist in setting up and dismantling temporary site stores when needed.
23. Offer manual handling assistance for unloading and positioning heavy tools on-site.
24. Valid UK driving licence with a clean record (Category B minimum; Category C preferred).
25. Experience in a store, logistics, or driving role within construction, geotechnical, or groundwork sectors.
26. Ability to handle and transport heavy equipment safely.
27. Good organisational skills and attention to detail for stock control.
28. Basic mechanical knowledge for minor tool and equipment maintenance.
29. Knowledge of manual handling and safe lifting techniques.
Desirable Skills & Experience
30. Forklift licence (Counterbalance or Reach).
31. Street Works qualification (NRSWA) for working around roadways and highways. Experience in site mobilisation and supporting construction teams.
32. CSCS card or equivalent industry certification.
33. First Aid or Fire Marshal training. Personal Attribute

Health & Safety Responsibilities As a Driver / Store Person, you are responsible for:
Conducting pre-use checks on vehicles, forklifts, and handling equipment.
Following site access protocols, ensuring safe delivery and collection of goods.
Using PPE as required and ensuring correct manual handling techniques.
Reporting all safety incidents or near-misses to the Logistics Manager. Training & Development The role offers access to professional growth, including:
