Process, Maintenance and Repair Engineer
Summary/Objective
We are looking for a highly motivated process engineer, with good communications skills, to join our team at NEPW Logistics within our paper converting division. In this position, you will manage and oversee the maintenance and repair of industrial paper converting equipment, as well as design, integration, and optimization of manufacturing and industrial processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs. This includes overseeing installation, operation, maintenance and repair of equipment, as well as preventative maintenance systems. You will direct the activities of our maintenance mechanics and technicians, as well as performing some hands on mechanical, process, and electrical repairs.
You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams, implement process improvement initiatives and contribute to the overall success of our organization.
In addition to maintaining and repairing equipment, this position will be a champion for Lean and 5S progression. In this role, he/she will be supporting the development of a Lean culture where continuous improvement is ingrained in our personnel as a natural way to think about our work.
Essential Functions
* Provide technical knowledge of paper and paper converting
* Provide lead technical support and troubleshooting expertise to resolve equipment-related issues and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
* Lead the design, project management, and installation of new and replacement equipment for production improvements.
* Augment and develop preventative maintenance strategies and structure for improving production uptime.
* Conduct detailed analysis and evaluation of existing manufacturing processes, identifying areas for improvement and recommending appropriate solutions.
* Design and implement process optimization strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle time and improve product quality through the application of Lean and Value-Engineering concepts.
* Collaborate with production and quality assurance teams to develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
* Monitor and analyze process performance metrics, such as throughput, yield and scrap rate and develop strategies to meet or exceed targets.
* Participate in cross-functional teams to drive root cause analysis, corrective actions and preventive measures.
* Provide training and guidance to production teams on new processes, procedures and equipment to ensure successful implementation and operation.
Required Skills/Abilities
* Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex process issues with hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems. Knowledge of programmable logic controllers, ability to read and understand equipment drawings.
* Strong knowledge of process optimization techniques, lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies and statistical analysis.
* Working knowledge of process safety, risk assessment and compliance with regulatory standards.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
* Availability to provide troubleshooting and repairs of manufacturing equipment to two 24/7 operations
Physical Requirements
* Prolonged periods standing and walking.
* Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to access and work upon machinery.
* Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Education/Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
* 5+ years of experience as a process engineer or related role in a manufacturing environment
* Paper Mill or converting operations experience a huge plus.
* Strong hands on Mechanical and Electrical skills. Experience in troubleshooting and repairing industrial equipment.
