Job summary We have an opportunity for a Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join our medical team for a period of 12 months. This is a locum post assuming the Medical Lead for our Inpatient Unit (IPU) whilst also have some timetabled community sessions to support the locality teams. The successful applicant will work alongside the existing Consultant Team and junior medical workforce to deliver expert, holistic care to our patients and their families. Main duties of the job The successful applicant will also contribute to the second on call rota providing out of hours support to the first on call doctor for the IPU and the on call clinical nurse specialist both in the community and hospital settings. The frequency of these is one in five weekdays and one in five weekends. The post holder will be expected to engage in annual appraisal as per the GMC requirements for medical revalidation. Fully funded clinical supervision sessions are available. These sessions take place during normal working hours and the post-holder would be exempt from clinical duties whilst undertaking supervision. About us Farleigh Hospice is a specialist palliative care provider for a population of 420,000 in the Mid Essex region. It moved into its modern, purpose-built premises in 2006 with a further extension (Lantern Suite) opened in 2011 to provide extended outpatient and drop in facilities. It includes a 10 bedded inpatient unit (IPU) where patients are admitted for specialist symptom control, end of life care, respite or palliative rehabilitation. In addition, since August 2023, we have extended our inpatient offer, whereby 4 of our 10 inpatient beds provide longer term care for people with a rapidly progressing life-limiting illness (Hospice Rapid Access Service, HRAS) We also operate 3 multidisciplinary community-based teams, covering each locality. These consist of clinical nurse specialists, specialist therapists (both physiotherapy and occupational therapy) and family support workers (including psychologists) as well as a Hospice at Home team.
