Kingcome Sofas is a highly regarded manufacturer of luxury sofas and chairs with a reputation for outstanding craftsmanship and quality. In addition to standard models, the company specializes in made-to-measure sofas and chairs tailored to customers' exact specifications. The company sells from a trade showroom in the Chelsea Harbour Design Centre, London SW10, and a retail showroom based at 114 Fulham Road, London SW3, and has a freehold factory near Newton Abbot in Devon, which is where the majority of staff are based. Annual sales are approximately £3 million and the company employs 45 staff, including an accounts team of two. Approximately 70% of sales are made to interior designers (the trade) and 30% are made direct to retail customers.
Kingcome Sofas is a subsidiary of Colefax Group Plc, whose core business is the design and distribution of luxury furnishing fabrics and wallpapers and includes the well-known brands Colefax and Fowler and Jane Churchill. The Group is quoted on the Alternative Investment Market and last year reported a profit of £7.7 million on sales of £107 million. Kingcome Sofas was acquired by the Group in 1989.
Kingcome Sofas has a small finance team of two staff comprising a Financial Controller and a part-time purchase ledger assistant. The position has become available as a result of the retirement of the current Financial Controller after ten years with the company. The role is based at the freehold factory near Newton Abbot, Devon TQ12.
Job Description
Reporting to the Colefax Group Finance Director, the Financial Controller will be a key part of the leadership team, helping to drive efficiencies to maximize performance. A key business partner to the Design Director and Operations team, the Financial Controller will be the key point of contact for all finance and payroll-related matters for the site.
Core Monthly Responsibilities:
1. Monthly Management Accounts
2. Prepare monthly payroll and payment of salaries
3. Prepare and issue sales invoices (mostly automated)
4. Maintain personnel and pension records
5. Credit control
Core Annual, Half Year and Quarterly Responsibilities:
1. Prepare Annual Budget
2. Prepare Annual and Half-year Reporting Pack for Colefax Group Plc
3. Manage Annual Audit
4. Prepare Annual Corporation Tax information pack
5. Prepare and submit Quarterly VAT returns
6. Periodic sales and profit forecasts for Colefax Group
Ad hoc Responsibilities:
1. Systems development
2. Pricing and other commercial matters
3. Employment and personnel issues
4. Government returns
The Successful Applicant
1. Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
2. Strong leadership experience in an SME environment
3. Hands-on operator, happy to assist with ad hoc requests
4. Friendly personality able to build relationships across the wider business
5. Experience partnering with non-finance stakeholders
6. Strong technical ability to ensure accurate financial and management reporting
7. The ability to report to the wider group and listed business
8. Manufacturing background desirable but not essential
