Must be flexible to travel to other locations once work is completed. General Duties: Duties include but are not limited to the following: Install, operate, modify, repair or monitor - Hardware and software for all analog and digital telecommunications switches, e.g., (iAESS, 2BESS, 5ESS, DMS 100/200, Siemens EWSD, OSPS, AIS) - SS-7 and associated protocols, Hi-cap circuits, modems, fiber optic terminal, SONET fiber networks, T-carrier, DACS, DATA-KIT, subscriber carrier and MIS systems -Special service platforms: SLAC1 000, OTB, LOTTERY and WEATHER. - Various toll, special service and voice circuits. - UNIX, DOS and XENIX based mini-computer systems at customer premises and central offices, e.g. MIS/ACD for Travelers and the 2BSCCS system for SCC Administration. Performs routine maintenance of central office equipment, including inspection, cleaning, lubricating and making the necessary tests to assure proper operation. Analyzes troubles, tests, repairs, adjusts and/or replaces parts of all types of central office power equipment, control circuits and batteries. Operates and maintains internal combustion engines, including diesel and portable units. Controls emergency AC power distribution. Places and/or removes soldered wire connections on distributing frames when required. Interfaces with other work groups within the Company relative to trouble reports and trouble clearance. Performs all of the above duties at unattended location as required Moves and/or lifts up to 60 pounds. Drives Company vehicle - car. Basic Qualifications: Past Experience: Central Office Technician, OR successful completion of two years of electronics training from a certified or accredited post-secondary school; OR other equivalent training such as a minimum of 8 months of electronics training associated with a United States military electronics maintenance-repair occupation and a minimum of 2 years work experience in that occupation. Candidates must submit the required documentation with transfer request. OR For Frontiers employee’s successful completion of the Comprehensive Mastery Test (CMT). Candidates who pass the CMT do not need to qualify on the current discipline test listed below or meet the education requirements as follows: Associate degree, Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Physics, Math, includes Associates Degree in Telecommunications from PACE University. Rooms are air-conditioned and well lighted. Spends most of shift walking, standing, crouching, and climbing ladders. Wears safety equipment when required.
