Due to an increase in workload, we now have an exciting opportunity for a permanent, full-time position for either an experienced Architectural Technologist or an experienced Building Surveyor, to provide essential technical and contract administration assistance to a busy design office. We welcome all applicants with more than 6 years’ experience/post qualification. All applicants’ experience (6 years or more) must have been spent in the UK. You must live in the UK to apply for this role. The successful applicant will be: Ideally based within a commutable distance to the Huddersfield office, the probationary period will require you to work full-time at our offices (3-6 months depending on your experience), to gain an understanding of our systems and get to know the team. Be an excellent communicator with experience in client-facing skills. A major part of your role will be managing a client’s expectations and ensuring the building project progresses. Experienced as a contract administrator and understand the nature of “job running.” Have a good understanding of RIBA and JCT Contracts. Willing to travel for site visits/ job running. Show a skillset that demonstrates a detailed understanding of buildings and construction methods. Will be able to use, or be willing to be trained in AutoCAD/Revit. You may be involved in the production of drawing packages as and when the needs arise. The role will be varied, split between office, home working and visiting sites/properties. The successful applicant will be expected to travel to manage the projects FA have onsite. Salary To be negotiated, to be based on your level of experience and salary expectations, however, a range of £30k-£40k is likely. Circumstances, Qualifications and Experience The successful applicant must already be: Based in the UK. We will not accept any applications from those wishing to travel to the UK in advance of this job opportunity. Ideally located within a commutable location to Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. A member of the CIAT, RICS, CIOB or working towards FULL membership. An accredited degree in Building Surveying, Architectural Technology, or Construction or the Built Environment, equivalent to HNC/HND level. Skill in AutoCAD or other drawing software is ideal but not essential. You will need knowledge and understanding to explain technical drawings and prepare a schedule of works and specifications. Able to work unsupervised and maintain project momentum. Able to manage a client’s expectations and ensure good communication throughout the lifecycle of a building project Specific Responsibilities and Activities within your role: Take instructions from design team members and work with team members on projects. You will be involved in a number of different projects at varying stages at any given time. Ideally, be able to produce drawings within RIBA stages 0-3. Your main role will be to act as Contract Administrator (RIBA stages 5-7) and manage the costs of a project, working alongside a building contractor and managing a client’s expectations. Diligently handle all instructions and maintain comprehensive records. Undertake measured building surveys, manage consultants as required. Prepare and submit planning applications. Ideally, be able to or understand the production of Building Regulation packages. Ideally, be able to or understand the production of tender drawing packages. The ability to make decisions, act on your own initiative and operate in a proactive way. Good communication is absolutely vital for this role. Be presentable (in person) when meeting clients and able to communicate thoughts and ideas clearly. Current, clean, UK driving license, own personal vehicle.
