We wish to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Renal Medicine from February 2025 for 12 months. There is a possibility that this post may be extended. The post is neither Royal College nor Postgraduate approved for training, but is educationally sound and well supported, with excellent opportunities for gaining clinical experience in Renal Medicine. Full Registration with the GMC is essential. The post is based at Southmead Hospital. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. Some prior experience in renal medicine is also required. Main duties of the job
Clinical duties will rotate through periods of inpatient ward duties, daytime emergency duties as the on-call bleepholder, outpatient clinics (including transplantation, dialysis, general and sub-specialty nephrology and satellite clinics) and procedures. Training and experience will be gained in all aspects of renal medicine commensurate with a large renal unit providing tertiary level care. There is currently a complex hybrid on-call rota with 11 slots covering renal medicine only. There are occasional blocks of resident night shifts.

Job responsibilities
Care of inpatients on the renal ward under the Firm you are working on. Supervising doctors in training working on the renal ward. Overseeing the writing of discharge summaries. Conducting ward rounds and attending ward rounds with the renal Consultants. Care of renal patients in outlying wards who are under the long term care of a Renal consultant or have been referred as inpatient for an opinion. Prescribing dialysis. Minor ops including native and transplant kidney biopsies and some dialysis line insertions (femoral lines). Attending the renal histopathology meetings.
Attending clinics and reviewing patients, dictating letters, and following up on results of investigations.
On call duties for renal including some resident night shifts and some non-resident night shifts. Supervising doctors in training working on the on call rota. Reviewing patients in the dialysis units. Seeing new referrals to the renal unit with direct or indirect supervision from the renal Consultants as required. Admitting patients for renal transplants and reviewing post-operatively with support from the renal consultants and transplant coordinators.
