Job Title: Legal Compliance and Practice Manager
Location: York City Centre
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 per annum (DOE)

About the Role
As the Legal Compliance and Practice Manager, you will be the key go-to person for regulatory advice and risk management. You’ll champion best practices firmwide, ensuring their operations remain fully in line with the latest SRA guidelines and Lexcel standards. This position is integral to the smooth running and continual improvement of a busy, forward-thinking legal practice.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Regulation
-Take ownership of all compliance initiatives, staying ahead of SRA rules and ensuring the firm aligns seamlessly with regulatory frameworks.
-Ensure policies and procedures meet the highest ethical and professional standards.
Lexcel Accreditation
-Spearhead the firm’s Lexcel accreditation process and manage all aspects of audit preparation.
-Maintain a culture of continuous improvement by embedding Lexcel principles into everyday operations.
Policy Development & Implementation
-Draft, update, and circulate internal policies in response to changes in legislation and best practice guidelines.
-Oversee firmwide adherence to these policies, offering training and support where necessary.
Risk Management
-Develop and maintain robust risk assessment protocols, collaborating closely with senior stakeholders.
-Keep accurate risk registers, incident logs, and associated documentation up to date, ensuring quick resolution of any compliance issues.
Staff Training & Support
-Design and deliver engaging training sessions on compliance, SRA rules, Lexcel standards, and relevant regulatory updates.
-Act as a trusted advisor to all practice areas, providing hands-on guidance in complex or emerging compliance matters.
Quality Control
-Run internal audits to monitor compliance levels, pinpointing areas for enhancement.
-Implement proactive solutions and monitor progress for measurable improvements.
What We’re Looking For
-Legal Practice Experience: Solid track record of having worked within a reputable law firm or similar legal setting.
-SRA & Lexcel Knowledge: A thorough grasp of SRA rules and procedures is essential, plus demonstrable experience with Lexcel accreditation and audits.
-Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture, influence policy at the highest level, and champion quality and compliance throughout the firm.
-Strong Communicator & Trainer: Able to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels, from new starters to partners.
-Organisational Skills: Highly adept at managing multiple projects, prioritising effectively, and meeting deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Remuneration & Benefits
