Duties:
* Provide support to the business to ensure fit and suitable manufacturing processes and parts.
* Utilise a combination of failure analysis investigation techniques to solve technical issues.
* Operate in a task-driven laboratory environment working with a team of specialist technicians and engineers.
* Understand unfamiliar processes to identify and develop technical manufacturing solutions.
* Perform material and assembly failure analysis and support the broader business via manufacturing, engineering and quality teams in technical investigations.
* Produce technical reports for a variety of internal customers.
* Manage lab equipment - grinding and polishing equipment, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscope.
* Utilise other functions of the lab to ensure robust and well-rounded analysis and provide on-hand technical advice.
Experience & Skills Required:
* Must be able to problem solve and demonstrate adaptability.
* Must have experience of material analysis through conventional techniques and inspection methods such as micro section and light microscopy.
* Experience of operating and interpreting SEM and EDX techniques and data.
* Must have a good understanding of the fundamentals of high temperature joining techniques including brazing and welding.
* Experience of processing components for the assembly of vacuum electronics and failure mode of vacuum electronic assemblies is preferable.
* Experience with the metallurgy of copper, nickel-copper alloys, steels and braze alloys is required.
* Adhesive selection and properties analysis.
* Assess, interpret and review technical drawings to confirm design intent and manufacturing suitability.
* Mechanical destructive testing and experience with non-destructive techniques.
