Salary: £33,945 - £35,745
Location: Mossley Mill, with potential work across various Council sites within the Borough

Job Overview:
My client is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Planning Assistant to join their Economic Development & Planning team on a temporary basis. This office-based role is essential to providing a high-quality, efficient, and effective Planning Service within the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council area.
As a Planning Assistant, you will work under the guidance of a Senior Planning Officer and will be responsible for supporting the team in meeting statutory requirements, performance management, and delivering integrated planning functions. Your work will involve everything from research and report preparation to the validation of planning applications and enforcement matters.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in assembling information, conducting desktop and site surveys, and preparing reports for the Local Development Plan.
* Validate and process planning and other development management applications.
* Monitor planning decisions, investigate breaches of planning control, and represent the Council in enforcement matters.
* Provide professional advice on planning policies and development management.
* Prepare reports, technical papers, and evidence for committees, appeals, public inquiries, and court hearings.
* Support and, when necessary, deputise for the Planning Officer to ensure team performance against set objectives.
* Participate in site inspections and meetings across the Borough, including some evening meetings.
Qualifications and Experience:
* HNC/HND/BTEC Higher National Certificate in Planning, Surveying, Cartography, or a related field, or an equivalent/higher standard qualification.
* Alternatively, an ONC/OND/BTEC National Diploma in Planning or a related field with at least four years of relevant experience.
* Strong organisational and communication skills.
* Knowledge of Northern Ireland Planning Policy and Legislation.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Additional Requirements:
* A full driving license or access to a suitable form of transport for work purposes.
* Willingness to work outside of normal office hours as required.
