Offer Description
Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position within the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton, UK. The work will involve polymer engineering and science aspects such as electrical, thermal and mechanical characterisation of high voltage insulation materials. Material development, such as polymer blends and associated composites will also be involved. The obtained results will be written up as project deliverables such as reports or presentations as well as publications in academic journals and conferences. This post is part of the Horizon Europe Framework Programme “CableGnosis” programme (Life Cycle Centre for Cable Diagnosis) awarded under the call for proposals: HORIZON-CL5-2024-D3-01-15: HVAC, HVDC and High-Power cable systems.
The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in polymer science and engineering and/or dielectric materials. Applications from candidates who are working towards a PhD will be considered. The candidates must possess detailed knowledge and understanding of polymer sample fabrication and characterisation.
We are looking for a self-starter, able to organise own research activities effectively who is able to plan and justify focus on extensive research that will result in long-term technological benefit. The successful candidate will have an ability to clearly document and communicate research results.
You must be able to work effectively in a team and organize time, tasks and responsibilities with other team members. Experience in project management will be an advantage.

*Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
