Job Title: Registered Nurses Department: Ward/DSU (Surgical Unit) Hours: Full and Part Time Hours available Salary : £39,772 per annum (Based on working 37.5 hours per week) Responsible to: Surgical Unit Manager Job Summary The post holder is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidenced-based nursing care, working collaboratively with the MDT Team to meet the needs of elective surgical patients following a range of surgical procedures. Key Responsibilities • To contribute to the running of the surgical unit in the absence of the Surgical Unit Manager and Deputies, assisting in all clinical areas of the surgical unit as required. • To participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members. •To act in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct. • Assess, plan, implement and deliver high quality patient care adhering to relevant hospital guidelines, policies and standard operating procedures at all times. • To provide a safe, effective, efficient care environment for patients, relatives and carers ensuring that standards around privacy and dignity are embraced. • Be able to prioritise nursing care as well as being responsive to specific patient needs such as providing acute medical care, managing the deteriorating patient, knowledge of wound and pain management, diabetes management and discharge planning. • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and legible written records of care in line with hospital policy and in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct. • Use effective communication, both written and verbal, with all levels of staff including the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives/carers. • Be responsible for the control and administration of medicines (including Controlled Drugs) adhering at all times to the Hospital’s Medicines Management Policy and Controlled Drugs Policy. • Contribute to creating a learning environment conducive to nursing students and other staff in training. • Participate in initiatives across the surgical unit to enhance the quality of care embracing evidence-based practice and current research. • Proactively support the management of incidents and engage with feedback seeking to resolve locally whenever possible whilst always ensuring lessons are learnt and shared. Person Specification Essential First Level Registration (Adult) Recent clinical experience in Surgical/Orthopaedic/Gynaecology/ Urology/ Opthamology/ Cosmetic Surgery Services. Experience of working in a team. Minimum of 6 Months experience as a Staff Nurse in a Hospital environment. Knowledge of elective Surgical pathways. Knowledge/understanding of good discharge planning. Able to work shifts. Positive, professional and polite. The closing date for receipt of applications is the 28th February 2025.
