Description
The Senior Finance Business Partner role plays a trusted advisory role providing financial expertise and strategic insight on high-value infrastructure projects over the next 12 months. This role partners with senior stakeholders to drive capital investment decisions and ensure alignment with long-term business objectives. The ideal candidate will bring strong financial modelling skills, excellent stakeholder management, and a strong understanding of capital project governance within a complex, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Act as the lead finance partner for major investment projects, providing strategic financial insight and challenge throughout the project lifecycle.
2. Develop, review, and advise on business cases for investments, ensuring robust financial evaluation and alignment with business strategy.
3. Own and deliver high-quality financial models, scenario planning, and sensitivity analysis to support decision-making.
4. Monitor financial performance of investment projects against approved budgets, highlighting risks, variances, and opportunities for value creation.
5. Collaborate with project managers, commercial teams, procurement, and other functions to ensure financial controls, governance, and reporting are in place and adhered to.
6. Lead the preparation of investment papers and present recommendations to senior leadership, investment boards, and executive committees.
7. Provide clear, insightful commentary and analysis on capital spend, ROI, NPV/IRR, and key performance metrics.
8. Support post-investment reviews to assess benefits realization, return on investment, and lessons learned.
9. Champion financial discipline, value for money, and commercial thinking across the project teams.
10. Ensure quality of data within finance systems including developing controls where necessary.
Required Skills:
1. At least 4 years PQE and relevant working experience.
2. Proven experience in a finance business partnering role, preferably with a focus on large-scale capital or infrastructure projects.
3. Strong financial modelling, budgeting, forecasting, and analytical skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and operate as a trusted advisor.
5. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to distil complex financial data into clear business insight.
6. Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking.
7. Experience in sectors such as infrastructure, utilities, real estate, engineering, construction, or public sector capital programmes.
8. Familiarity with investment appraisal techniques including IRR, NPV, payback period.
9. Understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile, PMO environment).
10. Analytical mindset with a focus on detail, accuracy, and actionable insights.
11. Able to provide examples where the status quo has been challenged and the positive impact or outcome on the business in a manufacturing/engineering environment.
12. Able to demonstrate examples of leading on cost reduction initiatives and their success.
13. Willingness to use latest business intelligence tools (e.g. Microsoft Power BI) to interrogate data, problem solve and provide recommendations.
