This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
A young man aged 19 requires a Personal Assistant to support him in and around the community with his social skills. The gentleman has learning difficulties.
The young man requires support to stay on task and motivated to do the things he sets out to undertake. He has been relatively isolated since leaving school, which has increased his worry about doing things independently. He requires no support with personal care.
He needs assistance to access transport and currently does not have the skills to independently access the community beyond a small area near his home. He can become frustrated when he feels he cannot do something, which can hinder his enjoyment of life.
The gentleman is looking for someone of a similar age with similar interests to spend time with him, helping to build independence and connection in the community and outside of his room. He particularly loves gaming but needs support to open up his world and think about future goals and the development of life skills. The way in which the hours are used is negotiable and dependent upon what he and the assistant plan to do, but it works out as 10 hours per week. How the hours are worked is much more about the development of the relationship than it is about what ‘activities’ are undertaken.
The gentleman hopes that the right candidate will do what they promised to do, bring humor and fun to the table, and have a ‘can do’ attitude. He would also hope that they would connect with him around his interest in computer games but use this to expand the repertoire of what he feels capable of doing, rather than keeping him in that place.
DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post – the cost to be met by the local authority.
