JOB ROLE: Materials Handler
JOB LOCATION: Harrogate
REPORTING TO: Production Supervisor
Shepley Spring is the UK’s leading bottled water manufacturer with over 20 years of experience in production and is proud to remain a family-run business.
The company operates in three manufacturing facilities in Yorkshire and owns several high-speed production lines capable of producing both still and sparkling water, servicing leading retailers such as Morrisons, Lidl, Booker, Tesco, and Sainsbury through private label and producing the brands Ice Valley and White Rock exclusively.
Competencies and Key Responsibilities:
Receiving and Storing Materials:
* Receive and inspect incoming materials (raw ingredients, packaging, etc.) for quality and quantity.
* Ensure materials are properly stored in designated areas according to food safety and health regulations.
* Verify proper documentation for incoming shipments, such as purchase orders and delivery notes.
Production Support:
* Assist in the operation of production machinery and equipment in line with standard operating procedures.
* Monitor production lines for quality control, ensuring products meet food safety and quality standards.
* Perform basic troubleshooting and adjustments on machinery to ensure efficient production.
* Pack, label, and prepare finished goods for storage or shipment, ensuring accuracy in quantities and labeling.
* Carry out quality checks and maintain records of production output.
Inventory Control:
* Maintain accurate inventory records for all materials and supplies.
* Monitor stock levels and report low stock or out-of-stock situations.
* Conduct regular stock checks and assist with inventory audits.
Material Handling and Distribution:
* Transport materials to production lines or storage areas using equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or conveyors.
* Ensure timely and accurate distribution of materials to production departments.
* Maintain an organized and clean work area to ensure smooth operations and compliance with health and safety guidelines.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
* Adhere to all safety regulations and food safety standards, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).
* Ensure that materials are stored and handled in a way that prevents contamination or spoilage.
* Assist in ensuring compliance with all environmental and regulatory standards related to material handling.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
* Maintain accurate records of all material transactions (receipts, movement, stock levels).
* Report discrepancies in inventory or material quality to supervisors or managers.
* Work closely with the production, quality control, and procurement teams to ensure material availability.
* Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth operations.
Safety and Equipment Operation:
* Operate material handling equipment (forklifts, hand trucks, etc.) safely and efficiently.
* Follow all safety protocols to minimize risks of injury and maintain a safe work environment.
Minimum Requirements:
* Prior experience in materials handling, warehousing, or manufacturing, preferably in the food and beverage industry.
* Forklift operation certification or similar material handling equipment certification (if required).
* Knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP, GMP).
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision.
* Proficiency in basic computer applications (inventory systems, Excel).
* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
* Physical stamina and strength to handle materials and equipment.
* Strong problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
* Reliable and dependable with a strong work ethic.
* Adaptable and willing to learn new procedures or equipment.
