The candidate will lead in providing engineering judgement both in design and construction activities to ensure end to end Engineering Assurance in accordance with the contract requirements, technical specifications, applicable standards and codes of practice. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with Project Teams, clients and stakeholders through collaborative working.
Project Responsibilities:
The role will be client facing and will act as the key interface as part of bid stage and contract commissions. Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
1. Act as the nominated Designated Project Engineer (DPE), Contractor’s Engineering Manager (CEM) or Contractor’s Responsible Engineer Design (CRE-D) for Civil / Structural Engineering design in compliance with NR-L2-RSE-02009 (Engineering Management for Projects).
2. Lead and prepare design in accordance with Eurocodes and NR-L2-CIV-003 (Engineering and Architectural Assurance of Building and Civil Engineering Works) across projects ranging from GRIP 1 to GRIP 5 / RIBA 2 to 5.
3. Prepare/manage civil/structural engineering design drawings, calculations, reports, and supporting documentation to Network Rail standards / Building Regulations.
4. Coordinate and manage engineering activities so that they result in civil/structural schemes that are affordable and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality.
5. Coordinate with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that civil/structural design deliverables meet Network Rail standards / Building Regulations.
6. Manage resources, junior engineers and CAD technicians, to complete the deliverables.
7. Monitor specific projects so that they are engineered to the standards and specification of the client.
8. Ensure allocated design and construction contracts include reference to and are compliant with appropriate standards, formal specifications and procedures.
9. Implement systems and procedures to maintain a cost-effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities on relevant projects, compliant with all relevant legislation.
10. Liaise with regulators and others as appropriate.
11. Support the CEM in the preparation of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and Common Safety Method HAZID/HAZOP analysis to allocated projects and support the environmental aspects of allocated projects in accordance with environmental policy.
12. Identify and share best practice across the various project teams.
13. Support growth of the Civil Engineering team, recruitment of technical staff and manage the mentoring of junior engineers.
This role may also include working on projects internationally for EGIS Transport Solutions or other EGIS subsidiaries.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
1. DPE / CEM / CRE-D experience.
2. Professional Engineer Registration status with the Engineering Council (UK) and be registered with an appropriate professional institution.
3. Technical qualifications to degree in relevant subject BEng/MEng.
4. Project and team-running experience in UK consultancy, client, or contractor organisation.
5. Excellent understanding of Eurocode, Network Rail and associated rail standards, and related regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR).
6. Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers.
7. Excellent engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
8. CITB CSCS scheme.
9. Valid driving licence.
10. YOU MUST HAVE THE RIGHT TO WORK IN THE UK.
Desirable:
1. Understanding of interdisciplinary design within rail environment.
2. An appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works, including low carbon design.
3. IT competence in remote working and facilitation of digital workshops.
4. Knowledge of quality assurance.
5. PTS AC/DC.
