Description We are recruiting a Transport Operations Manager to lead a high performing, efficient transport service for the contract/site. The successful candidate will be accountable for Planning & Execution, People Management and Development, Service Delivery and Efficiency for our customers and Financial Performance. Salary for this role £45,000 per annum How will you contribute? Ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements and all transport legislation Zero tolerance approach to breaches in safety standards, ensuring that everything (Pre-start checks, PPE, behaviours, contractor activity) within assigned department/shift is compliant with policies/procedures and associated controls Ensure a safe working environment and proactively challenge colleagues if they are putting themselves or others at risk Thorough accident investigation and timely accident reporting in line with guidelines Ensuring that the team are trained in risk assessments/SOPs and that they are kept up to date Ensure that the team are suitably trained to undertake their role in the business Maintain all BSI and ISO Company accredited compliance Management of safety/environmental incidents, including road traffic collisions, ensuring all events are reported, recorded, investigated and concluded in line with Company procedures Making arrangements to ensure that the vehicles are maintained properly, including inspection of the vehicles at the appropriate time and the action taken to remedy defects found Ensure all company policies and procedures are understood and adhered to personally and by the team, embedding them firmly into Wincanton culture. Provide outstanding service to our customers through accurate deliveries, made on time, with brilliant communication, where our drivers are seen as real ambassadors of Wincanton Manage the development, performance and maintenance of the sites transport to produce an efficient transport service maximising service, performance, value and profitability against pre-agreed KPI Delivering the site logistics budget for your site and proactively putting in place interventions to prevent cost overspend Deal with all first–line personnel management issues including timekeeping, attendance, welfare, holidays, training and discipline for personnel within your area of responsibility Delivery of team briefs/toolbox talks in a timely manner Support the team to ensure that any initiatives are embraced and actioned The deployment of coaching techniques to enable your team members to fulfil their potential Regularly review team member’s progress through 1 to 1s, PDPs and corrective coaching conversations in line with company procedure What will you bring? Transport Manager CPC National qualification Full, valid driving licence Previous experience in a similar role, minimum 5 years Thorough understanding of transport management, requirements and dynamics Proven ability to coach and develop others Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organisational and communications skills Ability to work under pressure Ability to work as a team member or on your own Flexibility and thoroughness The ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines Five GCSE at grade C or above, including English and Maths Health and Safety qualification, IOSH or NEBOSH Strong IT skills What do we offer?
