Position Summary:
The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for overseeing financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting to maintain the accuracy and efficiency of the company's accounting operations. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with a deep understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to support financial decision-making and regulatory compliance.
Essential Functions:
Financial Reconciliation & Reporting:
1. Perform timely reconciliation of various accounts, including cash, gift certificates, and credit card transactions.
2. Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
3. Oversee cash management, monitoring transactions and optimizing cash flow.
4. Manage the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
5. Prepare and submit monthly sales tax reports in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Vendor & Accounts Management:
1. Manage accounting functions for a small company subsidiary.
2. Review the Accounts Payable process, approving vendor payments or working with AP staff to streamline invoice reviews.
3. Maintain and update vendor records, including collecting W-9 tax forms.
4. Compile and submit 1099 reporting data to external preparers.
Fixed Assets & Compliance:
1. Maintain and track the fixed asset schedule, including additions, disposals, and depreciation calculations.
2. Ensure financial practices align with GAAP and internal policies.
3. Work closely with external tax firms, preparing and providing year-end financial statement packages for tax filing purposes.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration & Support:
1. Provide financial insights and reporting to stakeholders, including management and other departments as needed.
2. Assist with special projects supporting the Operations Manager, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable teams.
3. Collaborate with various teams to improve financial processes and efficiency.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Education & Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
2. Minimum 3+ years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a retail or service-based industry.
Technical & Analytical Skills:
1. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Word; experience with ePass accounting software is a plus.
2. Strong understanding of GAAP and regulatory compliance.
3. Ability to prepare accurate and timely financial statements.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
