Butler Rose Recruitment is pleased to represent our client, a leading manufacturer in the Plymouth area, who have a current requirement for a skilled Sourcing Specialist/Buyer with engineering experience. This is a unique role for an experienced individual to bring technical expertise into the purchasing function, supporting New Product Introductions (NPIs), driving cost-efficiency measures, enhancing quality, and mitigating supply chain risks.
Duties include:
* Take charge of sourcing new direct components needed for NPIs by collaborating with both existing and new suppliers. This will involve working closely with engineering teams to fully understand specifications, technical drawings, and requirements.
* Serve as the primary subject matter expert on direct components, supporting sourcing strategies and fostering strong supplier partnerships.
* Utilise industry insights to identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers.
* Assess and prioritise risks within the supply chain, proposing solutions to mitigate the highest risks, including developing or strengthening supplier sources.
* Identify and pursue opportunities for cost savings.
* Actively seek and implement strategies for inventory reduction.
* Build and sustain robust relationships with key suppliers, ensuring a collaborative approach.
* Ensure compliance with all sourcing and contracting policies, including risk management and ethical standards.
* Support and guide suppliers as well as the broader purchasing team through mentoring and knowledge-sharing.
To excel in this role, you should have:
* Experience in mechanical engineering.
* A solid understanding of end-to-end supply chain and sourcing.
* Ideally, a degree in engineering or a related discipline.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* The ability to cultivate effective relationships internally and externally.
* Well-developed negotiation skills.
