Melstock House is a mixed-sex assessment unit designed specifically to cater to the older adult population struggling with functional mental health illnesses. Our unit is focused on providing superior care and treatment to individuals navigating acute phases of their psychiatric, social, psychological, and emotional health issues.
As a mental health support worker you will carry out general housekeeping duties and any tasks which help with the smooth running of the ward/unit. You will assist the nurses in their delivery of care to the patients. We are a highly motivated and friendly team who have experienced staff with a wide range of skills and we pride ourselves on providing excellent care to our service users. You will be required to work shifts that include:
Early - 06:45 - 14:15
Late - 12:45 - 20:15
Long Day - 06:45 - 20:15
Night - 19:45 - 07:15Night, weekend, and bank holiday working at enhanced pay!

Main duties of the job
You will escort patients outside of the hospital unit on journeys, as directed by the nurse in charge, where access to a means of communication directly to the unit is available, i.e., mobile phone, walkie-talkie, or radio.
You will make accurate records of patient observations.
You will report any complaints by patients/relatives to the trained staff on duty.
You will be required to undertake aPrevention and Management of Violence and Aggressioncourse and it is a condition of your employment that you successfully complete all aspects of this course; if this is not achieved you will not be able to commence working in the post.
Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Person Specification
Knowledge, skills and training
* NVQ level 2 or 3 or equivalent level of experience
* Literate / Numerate
Job specific experience
* Ability to work in a team

Information Technology
* Basic IT keyboard skills, normally obtained through practice or practical training
Additional requirements
* A level of fitness and ability to participate and complete PMVA, Breakaway training and Manual Handling (practice and theory).
* Ability to meet contractual requirements and participate in 24 hour care
* Demonstrate skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable the post holder to carry out the role effectively
