Main duties of the job
We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our UKAS accredited Laboratory Medicine service to become an Associate Practitioner. This is an exciting opportunity to broaden your experience - working in a modern and well-equipped laboratory, providing an extensive repertoire of investigations.
The role is based in our Pre-analytics referral section where the successful applicant will act in a supervisory role over a busy referral and send away reception responsible for receipting and sending thousands of samples per month.

As part of the role, you will be required to work hours per week, with some potential for flexible cover of weekends and bank holidays. Southampton Laboratory Medicine is one of the largest labs on the south coast and provides a significant amount of specialist testing. Our service is always expanding and looking to make improvements.
This is a great opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge in a busy specialist referrals testing laboratory.
What you'll do You will make critical decisions about pre-analytic workflow Troubleshoot issues and problem samples. Communicate with Wards, Doctors, external hospitals and GP's You will contribute to providing a high-quality service

Person Specification
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential
1. A level or equivalent in at least two from Maths, English and Science at level A to C
2. Previous experience in laboratory work
3. Knowledge of laboratory processes
4. Able to handle a range of biological samples
5. Maintain a personal portfolio that demonstrates competence in theoretical knowledge and practical skills and compliance with Statutory and Mandatory training.
Desirable
6. ECDL or equivalent knowledge of computers
7. Previous knowledge of hospital IT systems
8. Completion of an internal multidisciplinary laboratory training course
9. Previous experience in an NHS environment
10. Previous experience of performing laboratory procedures
11. Previous experience in a diagnostic medical laboratory
