JOB TITLE: Lead Analytical Chemist
SITUATION IN ORGANISATION:
Working in the Wetherby PI COE reporting directly to the Analytical Manager. The role currently has two direct reports.
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Analytical testing of existing and new products for the Photoinitiators, Coatings and Resins division of Arkema Group.
ACTIVITIES:
1. Conducting analysis on raw materials, in-process samples (routine & non-routine) and final products
2. Testing samples using a range of techniques including GC, HPLC, MS, Ion Chromatography, Karl Fischer, FTIR, UV-Vis and viscosity
3. Supporting the R&D synthesis lab with investigational analysis of synthetic products and formulations
4. Calibrating, maintaining and troubleshooting lab equipment, as necessary
5. Recording and communicating analytical results appropriately, preparing reports as needed
6. A high standard of IT, numeracy and data analysis skills
7. Good written and verbal communication skills
8. Full commitment to following the quality system along with the safety and regulatory requirements of the business
9. Knowledge of SAP would be beneficial but not essential
In addition to the above, the Lead Analytical Chemist would be required to:
1. Perform routine testing, QC and QA work for existing products
2. Perform Method development on NPD products
3. Perform method validation where required
4. Maintain, service and calibrate equipment in all technical areas/labs (Analytical/Synthesis and Graphic Arts)
5. Control of analytical documentation: Methods, Sales specs, purchasing specs, Development specifications, Generating CoAs and SAP data handling
6. Arrange 3rd party testing/outsourcing work
Required Profile:
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. The role is part of the Technical Department, but you will also be expected to work closely with the company’s senior management and Technical Sales team to support the development of new products, monitor quality of existing products and provide information relating to customer enquiries
2. Complete project work within agreed-upon schedules and deadlines
3. Communicate results and problems or obstacles to project teams
4. Generate and distribute technical reports
5. Ensure the analytical department is operating correctly and efficiently at all times, supporting the staff/team to ensure they fully understand their objectives
6. Ensure all equipment is serviced and maintained regularly, so we are in full compliance of all quality and regulatory requirements
7. Provide the documents necessary for regulatory compliance
8. Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external collaborators needed to achieve objectives
9. Generate new ideas and provide leadership in moving projects through the development pathway
10. Maintain a safe, accident-free workplace and promote safety within the department
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1. BSc in Analytical chemistry or equivalent with more than 10+ years’ laboratory experience and 2+ years in management
2. A practical knowledge of GC, LC, IC, HPLC-MS and GC-MS and titrations is essential
3. Working and demonstrable knowledge of Chemstation, Lab Solutions, Magic Net, MassHunter
4. Analytical skills to analyze at-risk situations, take responsibility and report
5. Strong background in problem solving

7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present results clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences
8. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work and think both in a team environment and as an independent contributor
9. Holds a full driving license
