We are seeking a dedicated Housing Disrepair Fee Earner to manage claims related to property disrepair issues on behalf of tenants. This role involves handling a caseload of disrepair claims, including assessment, client communication, and case preparation for settlements or court proceedings. The ideal candidate has experience in housing law or civil litigation, excellent case management skills, and a commitment to securing fair outcomes for clients in disrepair situations.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management
* Manage a caseload of housing disrepair claims, including initial assessment, drafting of necessary legal documentation, and preparing cases for settlement or litigation.
* Conduct thorough investigations of housing conditions, collaborating with surveyors, and reviewing inspection reports to substantiate claims.
* Liaise with landlords, local authorities, and housing associations to negotiate repair settlements and reach favorable outcomes for clients.
Client Support and Communication
* Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, keeping them informed of case progress and explaining legal procedures.
* Conduct initial consultations, gathering information on property conditions, maintenance history, and tenancy agreements.
* Ensure clients fully understand their rights and the disrepair claims process, providing clear and supportive guidance.
Legal Documentation and Preparation
* Draft and file legal documents, such as claim forms, witness statements, and schedules of repair.
* Prepare evidence for court or tribunal proceedings, including photographs, reports, and other documentation supporting each case.
* Maintain organized and up-to-date case files, ensuring compliance with firm standards and legal requirements.
Negotiation and Settlement
* Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients with landlords or their representatives, aiming to resolve disrepair issues and secure compensation.
* Work closely with the housing disrepair team to devise case strategies and review settlement offers.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Certification
* Legal qualification or equivalent experience (paralegal or fee earner experience in housing law or civil litigation preferred).
* Relevant training or certification in housing disrepair or landlord-tenant law is an advantage.
Experience
* 1-3 years of experience in housing disrepair claims, tenant law, or civil litigation.
* Proven track record of successfully handling disrepair cases and achieving positive outcomes for clients.
Skills
* Strong analytical and case management skills, with attention to detail in document preparation.
* Excellent communication skills, with a client-centered approach and ability to explain complex issues clearly.
* Proficient in case management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
