About the role
The Projects Director will play a key leadership role in overseeing project delivery across our core disciplines. Reporting to the Divisional Director, you will take full responsibility for managing multiple concurrent projects, ensuring they are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard of quality. This is a hands-on role, requiring excellent strategic vision, operational expertise, and the ability to manage high-level client relationships.
Key responsibilities
1. Strategic Project Leadership:
* Lead the successful planning, execution, and closure of multiple high-value projects across the North of England.
* Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with clients and senior stakeholders.
* Ensure that project objectives are met, including timelines, budgets, and quality expectations.
2. Resource & Team Management:
* Oversee and manage Project Managers, Contracts Managers, Site Managers, and specialist teams across multiple disciplines.
* Allocate resources effectively to ensure optimal project performance and workforce efficiency.
* Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to project teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
3. Financial Oversight:
* Take full responsibility for project budgets, ensuring financial controls are in place and adhered to throughout the project lifecycle.
* Monitor project costs against forecasts and take corrective action where necessary to mitigate overspend.
* Provide detailed financial reporting to the board, including project profitability, cash flow, and risk exposure.
4. Client & Stakeholder Management:
* Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building strong, trusted relationships and ensuring client satisfaction.
* Liaise with key stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, subcontractors, and suppliers, to maintain positive working relationships.
* Proactively identify and resolve project issues, escalating risks as necessary.
5. Health, Safety & Compliance:
* Ensure that all projects comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, promoting a culture of safety across the business.
* Drive continuous improvement in HSE practices, conducting regular site inspections and audits.
* Ensure full compliance with legal and regulatory standards, including industry-specific requirements for asbestos removal and demolition.
6. Quality Control & Risk Management:
* Implement robust quality control processes, ensuring that all deliverables meet or exceed client expectations.
* Lead risk management processes, identifying potential risks early and implementing mitigation strategies.
* Conduct post-project reviews, capturing lessons learned and identifying opportunities for improvement.
7. Business Development Support:
* Contribute to business development initiatives by supporting tenders, bids, and client proposals.
* Provide technical input into new opportunities, ensuring the feasibility of proposed solutions.
* Represent the company at industry events and forums, promoting our expertise and capabilities.
Role Requirements
* Minimum 5 years of senior Project Management experience in construction or related industry.
* Relevant professional qualifications in construction, engineering, or project management (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, APMP) are advantageous.
* Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of managing multidisciplinary teams.
* Proven experience in delivering large, complex projects on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards.
* Excellent financial acumen, including experience in budget management and cost control.
* Strong client relationship management skills, with the ability to manage stakeholder expectations effectively.
* Comprehensive understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder management.
* Proficient in using project management tools, software, and Microsoft Office suite.
