Primary Purpose of the Role: The Engineering Operations Technical Assistant is a role within the UWS engineering operations team designed to support both that team and the wider engineering organisation by undertaking administrative and technical tasks. This role will be an integral part of the Engineering Operations Team supporting multiple activities from S&OP (Supply & Operational Planning) and Skills Management, through MoB&F (Make or Buy and Footprint) and On-Time Delivery (OTD) improvement, to performance and improvement management This role requires a proactive and self-driven person who is capable of managing activities across a number of topic areas in support of different team members. This will suit someone with good stakeholder management and communication skills Principal Relationships: As part of the UWS Engineering Operations Team you will interact with the following key roles: UWS Head of Engineering Operations UWS Engineering Operations Team Engineering Operations Manager(s) Engineering Skills & Talent Manager Engineering Environments Manager UWS Engineering Team (Engineering Director, Heads of Discipline, Heads of Engineering Delivery) Key Responsibilities and Tasks The list below is not exhaustive nor would individuals be expected to be able to undertake all of them. They are provided here to guide the applicant as to the type of activities within the role: Administration of engineering development training events (e.g. early careers and induction; role 'masterclasses'; specific skills), including coordination and Management of the Sonar Awareness course for Engineering Support to the engineering skills and talent activities (administration of monthly Skills and Talent Reviews, preparation of supporting data, opportunity analysis) MoB&F (Make or Buy and Footprint) support to project implementation and opportunity analysis: Maintenance of MoB&F matrix through regular review Update of MoB&F opportunity tracker Tasking to help unlock footprint & outsourcing activities Management of EPP (Engineering Performance Plan) and coordination of governance activities Ownership of Engineering 'risk & opportunities' register and coordination of updates and review of mitigation actions Support to data analyst in gathering manual data from projects (some willingness to learn and use Engineering Tools such as JIRA, DOORS and Windchill) Skills & Experience Essential A problem-solving mindset and keenness to work both independently and collaboratively to identify solutions Organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks, plan your own time and communicate this to others Ability to build excellent relationships with key internal and external stakeholders based on trust and confidence Ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including support and management of discussions within a cross-disciplinary team Ability to take ownership and accountability for resolution of issues across a team through proactive engagement with team members A desire to continually learn and develop technical skills Tact, discretion and professionalism when dealing with confidential information Desirable Knowledge of business structures and processes. How businesses work and how they use toolsets to promote efficiency (incl. Thales and UWS internal processes, i.e. S&OP (Sales & Operational Planning)) Knowledge of Chorus 2.0 processes (or similar) and the regulatory framework that Thales operates within Project management approaches, tools and techniques. You can adopt those most appropriate for the environment Usage of common office tools (MS office suite etc.) Experience This is a good opportunity for someone who is looking to progress into Engineering Operations as no previous experience is required and training will be provided LI-DM1 In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years.
