At Tata Steel Colors, we’re looking for Automation Technicians to join our Engineering Department at Shotton Works, just 10 miles from Chester City Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a high-tech manufacturing environment, using your automation expertise to improve production efficiency, reduce downtime, and contribute to exciting new projects. What you will do As part of our succession planning strategy, you’ll play a key role in providing specialist engineering support to our manufacturing production lines. Your responsibilities will include responding to plant breakdowns, diagnosing faults, and ensuring that downtime is kept to a minimum. You’ll also design, modify, and improve plant equipment software, ensuring our automation systems are operating at peak performance. In addition to maintaining existing systems, you’ll have the opportunity to implement PLC code, support major line improvements, and contribute to new projects. You’ll write and maintain onsite electrical procedures, conduct investigations into plant issues, and work closely with other engineers to develop innovative solutions that enhance our manufacturing processes. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working with cutting-edge automation technology, and making a real impact in a fast-paced environment. What you will need We’re looking for an experienced automation specialist with a time-served apprenticeship and HNC or higher in Electrical, Electronic, or Instrumentation disciplines. You’ll need experience in PLC programming, fault finding, and system optimisation within a manufacturing environment. You should have hands-on expertise with Allen Bradley Control/Compact Logix or Siemens S7 PLCs, as well as AC/DC Inverter drives. Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to read engineering drawings, and knowledge of SCADA, HMI development, and industrial communication protocols will be beneficial.
