Overview
At Firefly, our Technician team is at the heart of everything we do—delivering high-quality live event production for our clients. As a Senior Technician, you will take a leadership role within the team, using your experience and technical expertise to guide, mentor, and inspire colleagues while handling greater responsibilities. This includes delivering complex projects and contributing to company processes and investment decisions.
We welcome applications from those passionate about any technical discipline; however, we would particularly value candidates with intense video and/or lighting experience to support our team further. More importantly, we seek someone enthusiastic about the live events industry, eager to maximise technology's potential, and committed to delivering outstanding client experiences.
The role demands a proactive, problem-solving mindset, especially in high-pressure live event environments. Quick thinking, teamwork, and professionalism are key to overcoming challenges and ensuring smooth event delivery.
Our work primarily focuses on the corporate sector, including conferences, awards ceremonies, gala dinners, and business meetings. Most events are live, with some hybrid and virtual elements, and take place across the UK, with occasional international projects.
While you will not be expected to manage events fully, as a Senior Technician, you may take on aspects of project management, such as leading on-site teams, troubleshooting issues, and liaising with clients, venues, and suppliers. Should you be interested in taking on more project-based responsibilities—such as quoting, managing clients, and overseeing event planning—we can offer a salary supplement to reflect the additional duties.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Production & Event Delivery
1. Install and operate technical production for events of all scales, focusing on your expertise.
2. Lead the technician team on smaller events and your department team on medium and more significant events.
3. Support and assist in all technical areas to ensure successful event delivery.
4. Mentor and support other technicians by sharing your expertise and providing training where necessary.
5. Act as the main point of contact for clients at small and medium-sized events when a dedicated project junior or project manager is absent.
Equipment Management & Maintenance
1. Take care of all technical equipment, especially within your area of expertise.
2. Repair and maintain equipment proactively, working with manufacturers when needed.
3. Assist with equipment prep and de-prep as part of event planning.
Project Coordination & Problem-Solving
1. Work closely with project managers and clients to ensure seamless event execution.
2. Help with planning and logistics, including organising sub-hires, scheduling production timelines, and managing equipment returns.
3. Provide on-the-spot problem-solving for live events, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and professionally.
Live event production is a team effort, and we are looking for individuals who thrive in a collaborative and dynamic work environment.
