Position: Part-time Evening Catering Supervisor
Location: Oxford
Salary: £15,253 - £17,237 per annum
Our client in the City Centre of Oxford is looking for a Part-time Evening Catering Supervisor on a fixed term contract (1 year mat cover).
Main Responsibilities:
1. Work collaboratively with the kitchen, events, and catering staff to provide an excellent service to all clients and members of the college.
2. Take responsibility for your own health and safety training as well as the training of the front of house team, including health and safety, food safety, and related paperwork.
3. Organize and supervise staff engaged in food and beverage service, taking sole charge of formal dinners, internal and external events as required.
4. Liaise with relevant departments over bookings, timings, diet plans, and other event details to ensure smooth delivery.
5. Manage and deal with complex allergens and dietary requirements.
6. Maintain a customer-focused approach at all times, including responding to queries or complaints.
7. Supervise the laying and clearing of the college dining and function rooms, plus marquees for larger functions.
8. Manage stock of the college wine cellar and bar, ensuring spreadsheets are up to date and all stock movement is accounted for.
9. Supervise cleaning, stock control, and maintenance of all equipment to maintain a clean and hygienic environment.
10. Plan and use resources effectively to meet customer requirements, assisting the F&BM with rostering when required.
11. Deal professionally with customers and internal/external clients.
12. Work outside normal office hours to supervise events involving catering.
13. Carry out other tasks as reasonably requested by the F&BM and/or Head of Catering, including projects and operations across departments.
14. Assist in implementing and operating any systems & software used by the Catering Department, including epos, new events system, finance, Mercury, PerfectTableplan, etc.
Experience / Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of basic health and safety procedures.
2. NVQ 1 and/or 2 in Food Service (or qualified by experience).
3. Experience of supervising staff and managing dinners and events that involve catering.
4. Proven ability to accept responsibility and self-motivation to see a project through to completion.
5. Sound administrative and organizational experience.
6. Meticulously accurate worker with good attention to detail.
7. Excellent professional communication skills and ability to speak good English.
8. Previous experience of food service in a College or fine dining environment.
9. Ability to accept instruction.
10. Reliable, enthusiastic, and self-motivated.
11. Ability to work independently and flexibly as a member of a small team.
12. Ability to work well under pressure and in sometimes stressful conditions.
13. Ability to make good use of own time during quieter periods.
14. Well presented, adhering to the dress code and behaving appropriately for the College.
15. Fit enough to spend most working hours on your feet.
16. IT literacy including Microsoft Office.
Desirable Skills:
1. Basic food hygiene certificate.
2. First aid trained.
3. Experience of Perfect Table Plan, Mercury, and Epos.
4. A background in hospitality or the events industry.
