Exciting Opportunity for Highway Development Control Engineer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Highway Development Control Engineer to join a busy and dynamic team in the Midlands. This position involves assessing and advising on the highway implications of development proposals, managing Section 38 and Section 278 agreements, and ensuring new developments integrate safely and effectively with the existing highway network.
This position offers flexible remote working where office presence is only required once per fortnight.
The main duties of the Highway Development Control Engineer are:
1. Provide expert advice on planning applications affecting the highway network.
2. Review transport assessments, travel plans, and access proposals submitted as part of development planning.
3. Manage and assess highway works under Section 38 and Section 278 of the Highways Act 1980.
4. Undertake site visits and liaise with developers, consultants, and contractors.
5. Ensure that designs meet relevant safety, policy, and technical requirements.
6. Support coordination between planning, engineering, and legal teams for smooth project delivery.
The Highway Development Control Engineer will have key experience in:
1. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
2. Strong technical understanding of highway design and development control processes.
3. Demonstrable ability to assess and advise on planning and legal submissions.
4. Reliable and flexible, with the willingness to adapt to changing project demands.
5. Ability to travel throughout the region, with personal transport readily available.
6. Experience working with planning authorities, developers, and internal highway teams.
