Job summary
The post holder undertakes roles and duties delegated by the Senior Radiographer or a suitably qualified regulated professional. Working within the boundaries set out by the regulated professional, the scope of the role enables the post holder to work collaboratively with a team of dental radiographers to meet the needs of patients requiring dental x-ray investigations. They will follow established Kings policies and procedures.
The post holder will be working closely within a multi-disciplinary team, in each dental x-ray area (Main Dental X-ray, Orthodontics, Primary Dental Care, amongst others) and will be expected to perform administration and clerical duties, as well as to carry out certain defined procedures, under the supervision of a state registered radiographer. In addition to this, they will also provide assistance and support for Maxillo-Facial Radiologists.
This is a training post, in preparation for the appropriate candidate to undertake further study. A mandatory obligation of this post, is that the post-holder must commit to undertake academic study. After one year in existing position, the post-holder will be expected to apply for the DipHE Diagnostic Imaging.
Main duties of the job
* Communicate effectively with staff within and outside of the department to ensure the smooth operation of the service, including liaising with staff.
* To maintain strict adherence to the principles of patient confidentiality.
* To undertake all training essential to the post, as set out in the training protocol.
* To assist other team members in the performance of their duties e.g. room cleaning, checking patient I.D, preparing clinic lists, etc.
* To be able to manage own workload independently. To monitor the need for and initialise the process of replacing consumables.
* Work with Radiologists and Radiographers with assisting them with diagnostic examinations and other procedures.
* To know when to ask for assistance from a Radiographer and to show willingness to do so.
* Ensure patients are given appropriate instructions for their examinations e.g. removal of jewellery etc.
* Monitor patients and respond to their needs when possible, alerting appropriate staff if a patient is in need of further assistance.
* To print and dispatch electronically produced appointment letters, having identified appropriate preparation and information leaflets for enclosure.
* Deal daily with urgent outpatient/impatient requests.
* To assist others in Quality Assurance programmes.
* To ensure proper care and maintenance of all equipment.
* To deal with patient and staff queries at a level appropriate to their level of training/knowledge.
* To be punctual and consistent in attendance to work.

Person Specification
Suitability to role and required tasks

* NVQ Level 3, Foundation degree or equivalent
