Hillmorton High School is a diverse urban coeducational school situated in the South-West of Christchurch. The school is a fast-growing Y7–13 school with dedicated middle and senior schools. We have a roll of around 1300 and with further building works underway, the roll is expected to increase in the next few years. We provide students with a caring and supportive environment to help them achieve academic excellence, leadership skills, and a love of learning.
Student support needs a passionate and inspiring educator who will have oversight and leadership of resourcing and provision of support as it applies to all students from Y7-13 with identified learning and/or behaviour needs.
This person will work alongside HOLA and kaiako in our kura to develop successful, relevant pathways for all learners. The successful candidate will fulfil the duties of SENCo as outlined in the job description and will benefit from the support of an experienced teacher-in-charge of multicomplex students and skilled learning assistants.
The SENCo will have regular teaching hours, which can be negotiated at the time of appointment. As the school continues to grow, the student support department has also grown. We expect the SENCo to continue to help the department grow and develop, and thus a postgraduate qualification would be advantageous.
A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the understanding and ability to teach using culturally responsive and relational pedagogy is essential.
The successful applicant must be a NZ registered teacher and be willing to commit to our co-curricular programme.
